I would've said that about John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) or Geddy Lee (Rush), lol.

Interesting list to read through though, thanks OP!

Have to be a member of the Hall of Fame.  None of his bands are in, are they?
Otherwise Claypool would have been there.
I love Mike Watt as well.

Absolutely! Paul is not even in Entwistle's stratosphere, not in this world or any other. As for JPJ or Geddy Lee again not even close and I've seen all of them many times! James Jamerson? Ummm, NO!! The OX simply and completely changed how people viewed and played the instrument, he was in a class all by himself...as Noel Gallagher said he was the Jimmi Hendrix of the bass guitar!

You obviously know very little about John Entwistle and the history of bass guitar just by your response, no problem I mean only 99% of every other poll or living/dead musician knows he's not only the greatest but, also the most innovative...if he never did another thing besides his bass solo in My Generation he would still be the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is that enough exclamation points for you? I've seen 41 out of the 50 bassists on that list/poll and most of them multiple times but, I'm sure you have too.

Untouchable, seen him do that at least 15x's and every time it was different and mind-blowing! He completely changed the instrument as I stated earlier playing it like a lead guitar, bass solo's never done ever until My Generation. The guy was just a monster of talent. PT said he could've been a phenominal guitar player in his own right. Sad that he couldn't stop living the rock star life or he would still be with us.

I’m familiar  and he’s definitwly deserving bit to say it’s not contest is laughable. Plenty of guys hang right there with him and I don’t think he’s quite  as influential or innovative as you’re pushing.

Didn’t  Noel Gallagher also compare Oasis to The Beatles? So there’s that.
Not that Entwistle isn’t great, I just don’t put any stock what what NG says.

How come not in "Other Music"?

    Lou Barlow!
    Jack Bruce!
    Mike Fuckin' Watt!

  • Rollingstone's fanboy love for the Beatles is pretty overbearing sometimes...

I'm happy that Cliff Burton cracked the top 10 but should be much higher on that list as he brought so much to the table.  Watching Cliff em all will always be a treat.
