Juliana Hatfield is one of my favorite ladies of rock.  Great songwriter, singer, guitarist, bass player, keyboard player.

"Bottles and Flowers", one of my favorites of hers:

“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

Rilo Kiley/Jenny Lewis, Metric, Kacey Musgraves, Tegan & Sara have all been heavy in my rotation for the last 5-10 years.

My current favorite ladies of music in various categories:

    Classic rock:  Grace Slick
    Rock blues:  Janis Joplin
Contemporary rock (aka "alternative"):  Juliana Hatfield
    Punk rock:  Patti Smith
    Folk:  Gillian Welch
    Country:  Emmylou Harris
    Jazz:  Emily Remler

I'm guessing the late Emily Remler is the least well know of these ladies so here's a taste of what she could do:

“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

No mention of Alison Mosshart from The Kills and The Dead Weather? She's probably my favorite female rocker....

I've been itching for a new Dead Weather album since the last one. Hopefully that's Jack White's next thing after this current Raconteurs cycle ends.

And actually, besides Alison, the rest of the Dead Weather are in the Raconteurs right now. Jack White and Jack Lawrence are in the band. And Dean Fertita has joined them as a touring guitarist/keyboardist. I like the Raconteurs just fine but man, seeing the three of them onstage together without Alison is such a tease.

I agree. DW is my fave JW project. I'd love to see them live. Although JW live was the best show I've ever seen in my life. But the dvd's I have of DW just make me want to see them live.

I was at the Jack White show in D.C. last year that he made a movie out of. "Kneeling at the Anthem" I think it was called. Great, great show. I like that he pulls from all of his projects for his solo shows. He played "I Cut Like A Buffalo" with a new arrangement that was pretty cool. Band was tight as hell too...of course.

I haven't seen the Dead Weather live but will be all over getting tickets if they ever come back. I saw The Kills a few years ago so I was able to see Alison live which was cool.

Chantal Kreviazuk's first album was enjoyable. Also like Bic Runga and Anika Moa from time to time. Agree on Melissa auf der Maur. Her first album is awesome.

Can't go past Stevie though. You Can't Fix This, the song she did with the Foos, is amazing .
