By the way, I very like their streaming service. As I’m also a Metallica fan, combined with PJ, I have more than 1,000 bootlegs to listen to.
Do you know why the 2006 bootlegs are not available ?

Do you use the paid streaming service? I have been using the free one and liked it a lot but it went down about a month ago. Might have just been a url change and I missed it.

Reading the wikipedia article on MQA has me all confused about the format. If the idea is to use lossy compression in an innovative way to best reconstruct the original once it is received, why would anyone buy this format when lossless sources are available?

I don't see any benefit of it. There's a huge placebo effect with digital music. Tell people that something is different and better/improved and most will jump on it even though they can't hear a difference anyway. If you're already buying lossy formats such as mp3 or AAC to begin with, are you really going to be able to tell a difference between those and MQA? Probably not. Hell, I'd be willing to bet about 99% of people couldn't aurally tell the difference between mp3 and FLAC, either.

I know can't tell the difference between 256 mp3 and FLAC. so it saves me money every time. Lower quality mp3s I can hear the difference for sure though, but as long as I stick to 256 I'm fine.

Oh yeah, definitely. Unless it's ripped at VBR, I try to avoid anything under 256. I made the mistake years ago when ripping my entire CD collection to 128 - at the time it was for HDD space saving reasons. Everything now goes to 320 AAC. I can definitely tell the difference between a 128 and 320, but bump me up to lossless and my ears are too damaged to discern. When downloading, if FLAC/ALAC is no extra cost I'll grab it because why not. HDD space is no longer an issue.

I rip CDs to FLAC and then convert to 320 VBR mp3 for ipod. If I'm buying...256 or 320 mp3s.

I made the same mistake back in the day as well. I have a lot of VBRs.
