“We want this to be more than just coming to a concert,” he added. “And hopefully a lot of the bands will become part of this effort to get people to stand up and make themselves heard, to get and out vote. And if they don’t have a candidate that represents their feelings, to find one — or to run themselves.”

Tickets? Mr. Lang and his team are still working on that. But they envision selling a maximum of around 100,000 three-day passes, with most attendees camping on site.

Three woodstocks this summer??  Four?   They’ll probably all sue eachother when it comes to home media release. What a time to be alive

Seems like PJ would be more likely to play the Bethel Woods event than the Lang Woodstock given Live Nation's involvment with the former.

Why would that matter? If they do it it will be for the bigger check, which Lang will offer

    Why Bethel? Livenation affiliation.

Why Lang? Check size, political aspect, tradition, and venue capacity to handle PJ size crowd.

    I'd be happy with either.

Going back to what the other member said about festival experiences now vs the past (and how they have significantly evolved), I full heartedly agree.

Yet I continue to see posts about “suspect” food and portable toilets. I think it’s important to note that at most US festivals, they actually put an emphasis on the food. For example, at Coachella they bring in some of the most popular food trucks from LA (ones you will have seen on food tv shows) and they even have an app that gives you details about the various options. It’s really great.

Moreover, If you’re at a stage of your life where you’re “above” or “over” portable toilets, there are usually options where you can upgrade to get toilets on par with what the artists have in their trailers. Also, if you’re not willing to part with the extra cash, even the regular portable toilets aren’t usually those blue towers you think of from the 90’s. They are usually nice trailers, with multiple stalls in each, and they are divided up so that there is little wait time.

That’s my experience from attending Coachellas (2011-2014), Sasquatch, Desert Trip, Pemberton etc.

While sets may be shorter, that’s not necessarily a given (I.e. Phosh is playing 3 sets at this years’ Bonnaroo). While I’d prefer to see an arena tour too, I wouldn’t necessarily discount a festiva based on experiences I had in the 90’s (I.e. Lollas 1992-1996).

I went to ACL in 2018 and it was fantastic.  The lineup was not even that great. Only clusterfuck was getting in on the one day we arrived later in the day. The food was actually the best I have ever had at an event. Plenty of port a potties and few lines.  Saw 6-7 bands a day with plenty of great sight lines.  Yes, it is tough to get a good view of the last three acts without claiming a spot very early on.  I'm not there to get close.  I'm there to have a full musical experience with good friends and be outdoors enjoying live music. And get good exercise. I walked an average of 13 miles a day.

I will never understand why people dislike festivals. Most of them are a blast.

I’ve been to about 20 festivals and ACL 14 (Pearl Jam headlining) was my favorite. They know what they’re doing!

Nowadays I find myself at more beer festivals than music festivals 😜

I booked a $79 a night hotel 20 miles from Watkins Glen.  I plan to leave with great memories and a suitcase full of bedbugs.

I went to The Ride but that was more about the location than the band. It was about as good of a festival experience as I've had. Not over crowded, good weather and beautiful setting. I would do a hotel room vs camping if I did it again.

  • Bethel Woods is much too small for a one off Pearl Jam show.  Unless you get incredibly lucky in the lottery (assuming there is one) or have a ton of $ to spend on the secondary market, this would be an impossible ticket.  Not gonna happen.

The best festival every year is probably Jazz Fest.  The names that get put even on like the seventh row are legends.

Caters to every genre, easily holds 100,000+    Best food at any festival.

Im still interested in seeing what bands these competing Woodstocks book.

Telluride was phenomenal.   I haven't been to the Gorge or Red Rocks, but to me Telluride would be the better venue due to having a town right there with plenty of lodging/food/etc...
  • According to an article in the Poughkeepsie Journal there will be a student presale for the Watkins Glen event by the end of January.  No details are provided, but if it will be sold, does that mean a lineup announcement is imminent?

  • Festivals are never my first choice but I’m not optimistic we’ll get many opportunities to see our boys live in 2019.  Look at the recent trend... 2017 and 2015 were lean years.

So I’ll be counting my blessings if they do Bethel Woods.

As of a couple days ago Lang said announcement and tix for his “official” Woodstock 50 would be announced “next month.”  I imagine details of competing events would be announced around the same time.
  • Would rather he they do Langs....

This isn’t a rumor but an observation...the lineup leaks of Watkins Woodstock suggest no PJ...the Bethel non-Woodstock still has a TBA for the Sunday night...what are the chances...
