Opinions About Setting the Stage up "In The Round"

I just saw Metallica in Sacramento last Friday and they set the stage up in the middle of the arena. They had the drum kit set up in the middle and it rotated to face different parts of the audience throughout the night, There were mics set up all over the stage so the band could sing from a bunch of different places and move around as much as they wanted. It was an awesome show. The whole floor was GA. It did not matter when you got in because there was no "front" of the stage to run to and people were basically very civil.

I thought it would be awesome if PJ did this. It would give the entire arena a chance to see the band from different angles. I know this may have been discussed before, but I started to think about it after the Metallica show.

Thoughts? Would this cause more chaos and ill will or would it help? Just wondering what everyone thinks.

I saw Metallica do it a few years ago and wasn't that big on it.  75% of the time they're facing away from you.  Especially when your on the floor.  Plus the stage takes up way more space, but they sell just as many floor tickets so you get packed in pretty tight.   I experienced it an arena though.  Maybe it works better in a Stadium where most of the seats aren't great.

I’m up for trying it.  Might be good.

A few years ago, we saw The Lumineers with a main stage and a B stage.  I did not realize this and luckily bought seats in front of the B stage. That may be a resolution for those not wanting "in the round." It was really quite wonderful.

I don’t know that Pearl Jam’s style of show is akin to playing in the round.  But that said it wouldn’t stop me from seeing them.

I'm into it for the simple fact that it will let some air out of the entitled people who need to be on the rail all the time.

I wouldn't mind this, though I don't think it would foil the rail brigade, unfortunately. They'd still wait in line and get insane and awful about being right against the round stage.

While I enjoyed it for Metallica, not sure I would for PJ or anyone else. Even if I am far away I like the end positioned stage and screens to at least see it if I am tired of squinting.
