  • Hope she gets better. Certainly don't like seeing an 85-year-old woman get injured. Frankly, she's lucky she didn't die.

But while we're talking about her, the lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court might be the dumbest thing in our entire government (and that's saying something). Two previous justices served until they were 90. And Ginsburg has said she wants to serve until she's 90. Seriously, is there any job you'd want a 90-year-old performing...let alone deciding the most significant court cases in the country? Maybe a greeter at Walmart?

A lot of people in Washington are elderly.  IMO its kind of nuts.  I am 40 and feel like I am losing touch a bit with modern society.  I can't imagine how it will be in my 80s.... let alone making crucial decisions that will effect generations to come.

Watching the Kavanaugh Senate panel in particular was pretty jarring.  It looked like a comedy skit from Mr Show or something.

The funniest was watching them question Mark Zuckerberg. Most of them seemed like they didn't even know how to connect to the internet, let alone question a tech guru.

Generally, I think you have a good point here.  But then, there are exceptions.  My father, for example, served as an elder on a Presbyterian Session up until around 90 years of age.  His many years of experience and gained wisdom were very much appreciated and useful to that church.

Yeah I totally agree there are exceptions. But for the Supreme Court, that just seems too old. Especially in today's world where things move and change so fast.

Maybe.  But I have to say, for what are probably obvious reason (beside wanting an elderly person to be OK) I really hope she hangs in there until at least 2020.

You want this poor woman to endure ANOTHER Trump inauguration?

Oh you mean that Trump will be gone after the 2020 election and then the democratic president can appoint a liberal to replace Ginsburg. Hopefully..

I honestly think if Trump wins again its all a moot point and I will be seriously looking at moving far, far away.

lifetime appointements are just plain stupid. 20 year tenure MAXIMUM. and what mcconnell did to obama should not be allowed. no house majority leader, regardless of party, should be able to do that.

I also would support a limit of appointments per term or something like that.  Its turning into a contest of who can find the youngest political operative judges.  Its a matter of time before we see like 3 retirements a week after a presidential inauguration, and/or assassinations of justice(s)

Falling at 85 is bad.  Fortunately, she didn't break her hip.  A broken hip over the age 70 can be a death sentence.

Doesn't matter, next President will expand the number of court justices.  There's not enough right now.

18 years. every 2 years a new justice is confirmed.  also reduce the number of seats to eight or add one to have ten.

Maybe she should retire in a year or so? You know, around the same time another seat became available in 2016? Because, you know, the republicans will just hold that open until after the election... following their own precedent, right?

Are there physical fitness requirements for the SCOTUS now?
Are you ruling out the disabled from serving now?
