How I learned to stop worrying about collecting songs/albums and learn to love PJ even more.....

I'm 20 years into my concert going experience with the band. I catch every show close to me no matter the day (except Milwaukee 14 - I had a three month old; and I kick myself) but that being said Wrigley 18 shows taught me something. I can love any show and any song if I'm not worrying about collecting and what comes next. About throwing away a chance at posters (although I do look for the drops on the site) and just enjoy the set and the show. I don't get upset about Even Flow or Jeremy (cause I love hearing them live), or about leaving a concert early (if I have a pack of high school kids waiting for me and 4 hours of sleep on the horizon - I've quit kicking myself [even missing Leash last Monday], because I saw the band, I loved the show. I put in what I could and the rest is beyond my control. I love this band. I love what they give to us and I've never left a show disappointed or bummed and that's the thing....live in the song, the moment and embrace what you get, not what you want. Every show is a gift.

Sorry I botched up the post above. Great post however and I’m starting to get this though it’s been a slow process. Worrying about damn I missed Breath or Leash or you name it because they played it at the last stop etc. and just enjoy the setlist the band have prepared for that night.  Fortunately nothing has forced me to leave a gig early but great attitude you have shown in dealing with it.

I lived in Chicago for years and was so spoiled and I was younger. Now with kids, an hour and a half drive back from a show, and work the next morning it's either get upset at not going or catch as much as I can when I can. I'd rather see 80% than 0%. And I'm learning that songs like Hail Hail that I thought I'd hear every show until I died are rare and it's really reignited my love for that. Like the first 10 songs at Wrigley on night 1 were all repeats for me but it's been a long time for a lot of those songs so I didn't care. I just loved Breakherfall (18 years), into Hail Hail (9 years) and I loved it.

Good for you! I never understood the song/album “collecting”. I think it’s a fun fact but nothing more. Enjoying the songs and the overall show vibe is much more fun than holding out for white whales!! Are we gambling or watching a show?

+1 it makes much more sense to live in the present tense!!

I agree with enjoying every show for what it is. I do not see anything wrong with chasing songs that mean something though as long as you are not taken out of the moment during the shows if they are not played. I have a couple of songs I would love to hear. They are in my top 5 songs from the band (Hard to Imagine and Parting Ways). I am not trying to complete any albums or check any lists off but instead just hear a couple of great songs that I have yet to hear live.

Oh man, there are so many I want to hear. So many. It's why I love going. I could hear it. I love the could aspect, I just gave up waiting.
