well that one caused outrage at the time too. I was more thinking songs that were ok then, but now they'd be subject to higher scrutiny.

I guess 1989 is now considered "yesteryear", but Stevie Ray Vaughan's version of Boot Hill is very morbid and misogynistic. Johnny Winter also did a great version of this song in 1984.

"Look up on the wall baby....hand me down my shootin' iron
Look up on the wall baby....hand me down my shootin' iron
Call your mother long distance....tell her to expect your body home

If the city don't bury you baby....lord knows the county will
If the city don't bury you baby....lord knows the county will
You made your last mistake....you going way out on that boot hill

Lord I don't want to wax you darlin'....'cause you gave me my first thrill
Lord I don't want to wax you baby....'cause you gave me my first thrill
You did me so wrong....you're going way out on that boot hill"

This one always comes to mind for me. I was maybe 10 years old when this came out and 17 seemed old then. Now...not so much.

    I'll start.

    GNR's Used To Love Her
Came up in the GNR thread but It's So Easy and Back Off Bitch might also fit the bill. Even the orgasm in Rocket Queen might raise a few issues?

I liked this band, but must have never really listened closely to the lyrics on that one. Wow! This will be leaving my collection.
1991- Hollywood Palladium, California with Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains -RIP Magazine Show Oct. 6th
    1992- Lollapalooza, Irvine, California
    Nothing since then. I suck.
2016- Fenway Park, Boston - Both glorious nights
    2022- Oakland Night 2

They played in on this european tour. No twitter tag trended :)

Always felt like it was inspired by Down by the river.  Anyone know if GNR ever talked about being influenced by Neil Young?

That's what Axl said when asked about it. Maybe it was a cover up. Maybe it wasn't.

That got some attention when it was released but I have a feeling most people didn't listen to the lyrics.

really just any song that would cause outrage today that didn't cause outrage when it was originally released.

Sticking with the "sixteen theme", John  Mayall, "She's Too Young"

Sixteen, she is still in school
I've got to learn to keep it cool
She's too young but not for me
So with a bit of luck
She will find a way to come to me

    Why do people always intervene?
    Very soon she'll be seventeen
She's too young to skip town
She was born to be loved
And I can't wait to bury her down
She's beautiful and waits for me
Will our plans ever come to be?
She's too young so people say
    But with the opportunity
She would run to me today

“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

But now the question that comes to mind is, is there a category of song besides sexist/ misogynistic song of the 50's, 60's and 70's that would cause a negative reaction?

Would the satirical nature of Frank Zappa's Bobby Brown be understood on twitter today?

Such a fun band - really wish they would do a reunion tour but Danny is probably too busy scoring every 2nd movie that gets released....
