Damn mickeyrat, heavy stuff. I suppose most everything in here is. Unfortunately I've known two people who became murderers. Both murdered their significant others that I also knew. One situation left children without either parent. Very sad and hard to talk about sometimes so I won't go into great detail.

Good friend of mine, we grew up playing baseball together.  Same team for 9 years.  He moved out to Aurora, CO after high school and married some girl he met online.  Got mixed up with the wrong guys out there.  Two guys threatened his family, so I was told, and he found where the guys lived.  Shot them both execution style in their apartment.  Still don't believe it.  This was last April.

I recently found out a kid I went to school/graduated with attempted to kill his wife. DID NOT see this one coming.  They have 2 kids. He's a teacher. He was having an affair with an under age student. Wife finds out and he cut her throat and sat next to her and waited for her to die. Shes a nurse and positioned herself so she didn't choke on her own blood. She pleads with him to save her. He calls the underage pre teen and she talks him into calling the ambo. She survived. I wish I were making this up. I'm still shocked and speechless. I'd much rather say I went to school with someone that's now famous!

His parents both taught at our school too.

It's just so bizarre and unbelievable! :open_mouth:

    PLEASE.

You're friends with an attempted murderer. I am/was friends with an ACTUAL murderer. Hell, I am almost bought his house!

Yes, two guys I hung out with over the years murdered people, one was drug related, the other was a jealousy thing. The drug related one, I hung out at his house for a long time, maybe up to a year before the crime. He was released about 5 years ago and was killed a motorcycle accident late last year. He was a nice guy, goes to show you how drugs can over take you and cause you to do irractic things.

I don't know if I know any murderers but one of the nicest guys I even met was murdered outside a bar.  That was a hard blow.

A friend of mine in high school became a two-time murderer, starting maybe a couple years after graduation. He murdered the first person in cold blood - totally innocent victim who he didn't know but stabbed to death at a party when he was in a rage. He just attacked the first person he saw. And then he was released under extenuating circumstances (drunk and with a learning disability leading to rage problems apparently), and he did it again, basically the same exact scenario. He was let out again (he had to do intensive counseling and shit). Last I heard he's happily married. He might have kids now. :disappointed: That must be VERY upsetting for the families of his victims.
The crazy thing is that he was a nice guy. He did get in fights once in a while, but besides that, he was alright, and I never thought he'd be dangerous to anyone. I hung out with him often enough. I liked him. My parents both taught him and they liked him too. And he was from a very nice, stable family with parents who really cared and two very successful siblings. He just had a screw loose... he would snap and be unable to control himself (and it was worse when he drank).

For those that are thinking, "What the f**k?" ... please understand this happened in Canada. Our courts love our murderers up here and do everything to avoid punishing them.

So, hypothetically, if an American were to travel to Canada and hypothetically murder a Canadian citizen in a fit of rage, how do you think the Canadian courts would handle the hypothetical murderer in such a hypothetical situation?

    Hypothetically.

Just to clarify here, hypothetically speaking, is this a hypothetical question?

I don't think so. Knew a kid that got murdered shortly after high school. Drugs and the streets.

  • A guy I went to high school with killed someone in a bar fight when I was in college. From what I remember, details were sketchy about why they were fighting and what actually happened during the fight. The other guy initially survived, but died a day or 2 later in the hospital. It's jarring to find out about something like that, but knowing who that classmate was, I wasn't shocked about it. He came from a well to do family and they hired a lawyer that was able to get him little to no jail time.

What in the holy hell is in the water 'round here?  Is this an accurate representation of 'people who know murderers' in the general population, or is there something about Pearl Jam fans that makes this % higher?
    Wow.
    Some scary people out there!

(And I do know a guy that attempted to kill his family.  He had berated me on the phone about a project we were working on for Nike a few months prior and I told co-workers this guy was a fucking psycho.  Was sorry to be proven correct.)

Lol. I knew for sure that Thirty would reply to that one... although I'm pretty sure we talked about this case before Thirty. I don't have a super one-sided attitude about this like your do (or maybe just am not inspired to generalize about it like your are, or to exaggerate or use sarcasm the way you do with it), but of course I acknowledge that sentences for violent offenders in Canada are really lacking far too often (not even close to always), and it's a real problem that badly needs to be addressed. I don't think I've ever met a Canadian who didn't think that. That is why I continue to be surprised that the justice system/government doesn't confront this problem. I mean, what in the fuck is stopping them?? It's not like they're being lobbied by child molesters and murderers.
