Double Album?!

vitovito Chicago Posts: 1,434
It's time for them to not only release a new album but, to add a signature double album to their canon and legacy...for me it's the only thing missing for them to rightfully place their name alongside the Who(TOMMY & QUADROPHENIA), Stones(EXILE ON MAIN ST.), Beatles(WHITE ALBUM), Clash(LONDON CALLING), Zeppelin(PHYSICAL GRAFFITI), Floyd(the WALL), Dylan(BLONDE ON BLONDE), Hendrix(ELECTRIC LADYLAND) and Prince(SIGN OF THE TIMES). The real question though is do they have it in them?

Too much punctuation on your title. One exclamation point would have kept it from misleading me into thinking a new double was in the works.
I'm like an opening band for your mom.

For a double album, you'll have to wait 5 additional years.  The creative process is slow enough.

Lol, well there is a question mark first..again the real question is do you think they have it in them to not only do it but, make it great?? Maybe the lack of responses tells me what I feared and that's no one really believes they can pull it off. Would love to see them just go for it!

Well, then they should just call it a day if your response is that just becoming an occasional touring band and only to make $$$ is their game plan for the future. They are still young and if the only reason to not release albums is because of $$$, then they should stop! I'm going to the 2 Wrigley shows because they have given me no indication that they wont continue to release albums. If after this tour it becomes the norm I wont continue to follow them around the world anymore!!

They could never release another album and I would still want to see them live, to hear them play music, to experience Mike play guitar, etc.

A double album seems like it is asking a lot given today's music industry. Let's start with a single album and go from there.

I respect the first part but, it would get old for me not hearing new music for what would be a lot of shows at the pace I have seen them so far as there has always been new music, although it has slowed down over the last decade. As for the second answer your response tells me you simply don't believe they can do it. Also as you say 'given today's music industry" wouldn't releasing a double album make it even all the more challenging and rewarding?

No, I didn't forget that and it's as fabulous as the other doubles I mentioned but, I just don't think the Pumpkins belong with any of those other artists I mentioned and I'm a big fan. The last 20 years unfortunately prevented the SP from being an iconoclastic band like those above!

I don't know whether they can do it or not, or whether trying would produce the best album they could make or not. At the end of the day this is their business and I just don't see a double album making sense for that business. But they certainly haven't asked me what I think, so...

$$ is the grease to make it all go round. They raised prices for tix cause they had to, not because they want to. They aren't making the big bucks like the 1st 3 albums, and I'm sure they don't mind trading it off for a more normal life than being in that white hot spotlight. But where are the B-sides? We are lucky to get 12-14 songs every 5 years now.

Could they do it ( Double Album).. But seeing the latest music trends and the longer it takes for an album from them , I'd doubt it

I will just state this, besides everything the man accomplished and influenced, if he only focused on wanting to be the best guitarist other then Jimi he could've been! Although he could care less about being a rock Guitar God I would still have him in my top 10!

I'm sad to say I feel like double albums are for bands in their prime, or about to hit the downward spiral and a double album is that last ditch at really pushing boundaries.
At least I feel it was for modern day double albums, foo fighters and pumpkins .

I don't think PJ have it in them. Not anything strong I mean. Sure they could knock out a decent 20 track album. But they'd probably not even touch it on tour, then be gone by following tour .

Id love to see it happen. I don't really think that it will though.  It would require a dramatic change in their studio habits in recent years.  On the other hand one thing that makes it a possibility is that they haven't released a b-side since riot act.  Who knows maybe a double album where one side is more straight up rock and the other an experimental side.

And while their at it let's just really climb Everest and make it a concept double album that tells a fascinating story and has 75 minutes of mind-numbing music, this Colorado pot is damn good...lol

Just there own version of the Beatles White Album would do me nicely. All contributing different songs, genres etc...

No double album. If they have enough content for two albums that means they probably have enough for one amazing album. Save the rest for Lost Dogs 2

if they do do it, I wouldn't mind like an "In Your Honor" Foo Fighters thing.  Half rock/half acoustic.
