Is new music important for this tour?

As much as any PJ show is a pretty much going to be an incredible experience I miss them
touring behind new music which at this point is, what, about 4 years and counting since LB?  They could play the hits again and come up with new set lists etc. but new music / a new album (and perhaps a new look stage) would make this next jaunt more compelling and interesting. Just my 2 cents.

Good luck to all who are getting tickets.

What music? It's all about the merch and scramble for the rail or the best possible seats.

Maybe not new music.  But dust off some songs that weren't in heavy rotation 2 years ago.

It’s important to me. I was intending to go to Fenway this year and made a hotel reservation but I’ve since talked myself out of it. I’m going to skip putting in for the lottery.  I did Wrigley in 2013 and Fenway in 2016 and without a new album I kind of feel like I’ve been there and done that.  Touring on this album since 2013 has things feeling a little stale in 2018. I’m hoping they give us a new album soon and we get a proper US tour next year.

New music is not important to me at all. The catalog as it stands now is stellar. There are still songs I've never heard, others that I want to hear again, and many that I wouldn't mind hearing at every show.

Would like to see this happen, but would not complain if they road test a new song or two.

  • It was pretty damn cool at Wrigley in 2013 getting to see a few songs debut live. It's kind of special being there to see the first performance of a song. I don't expect it though.

Agreed on dusting off older, seldom heard songs. Also, Move Alive around the set list. Free that slot up for something truly surprising each night. Use Pendulum as an opener no more than a few times a tour.

I was really hoping for new music this year.  But I'll also be happy with a new album and a proper US tour in 2019.

I have yet to even be slightly disappointed with any PJ show I've seen.  That being said I would love a couple new tunes and/or no repeats at the two night stand at Wrigley.  6 months away and im already excited about these shows!
  • A couple songs PJ should focus on: Marker in the Sand, Severed Hand, Green Disease, Get Right, Breakerfall, Immortality, In my Tree, Thumbing my way, sometimes, Long Road, God’s dice, Trumpleaguer, red mosquito, plus throw in a temple song or CC tribute!

Yes to new music... hoping for the best.... they are incredible musicians and I am wondering why its taking so long... If they are writing they must have 100s of songs at this point... fingers crossed for a surprise album drop but judging from the long, slow build up to the Let's Play Two film and the merch/tie-ins, etc. I can't see that happening...

  • The creative well is dry.  No new music since LB?  My god, put out Lost Dogs 2.  These guys know they can tour just like the Dead and collect a few million dollars apiece.

New music would enhance the experience for sure, but they have a huge catalog to experiment with.  Perhaps re-work some songs, ditch the usual cover songs for some new ones, move the hits around in the setlist so the final encore isn't so predictable, etc....  I'll just be hitting one show in the states so it would be great regardless.
  • You need to do a poll question on this so we can actually track the numbers.
    Please.
I'm interested to see where the forum falls on this topic.
Thanks for raising a great question.

I don't think we will get any new music toured in 2018.  Touring cycle seems to be quadrennial (US tour, International tour, US regional tour, off year) plus annual US 'bucket list" destination events.  If there is a 2018 album it likely will be an end of year release and they tour it the following spring.

I am cool with no new tunes as long as they change the set up at least 90% between the 2 consecutive shows.

I have seen PJ 30+ times and there are still songs I have yet to hear live. this could be the year!!

I am not interested in traveling all the way to Chicago or Boston to hear a greatest hits set. been there and done that.

They've been touring their catalog since the fall of 1993.  While many of their tours at one time coincided with an album release, they have never expressly played their recent release.  It has always been blended in to the whole picture.
