My best advice: go get a beer, pizza, see a museum or a comedy club and go to the show at a regular time. Spend your time seeing a world class city before you see a world class band.

...I'm honestly not even sure that is Wrigley he is standing outside of.

I think it is, as the bleacher entrance (used for GA) was recently reconstructed. He's sitting across the street. Here's a rendering (link).

Ah, that makes sense. The building definitely looks newer than any part of Wrigley I remember seeing three years ago.

Wrigley looks totally different. I was blown away sitting in the bleachers a few weeks ago. Money well spent by the Ricketts family.

I believe at 9am we watch it go to fire. I don't get waiting around all day for rail either. It's like being a prisoner for 16 hours.

The only reason I will go early on Saturday is because both my concert buddy and I are a whopping 5'3". I normally go with RES for that reason, but I couldn't resist for Wrigley.

My general approach to GA: Show up an hour before the opening act, walk in with no line, watch the show from about 10 yards behind the people who squandered an entire day of their lives queued up outside the venue.

The obsession with the rail makes no sense to me. I'm sorry. I know it's important to some people.

Closest I've ever been to the stage at a PJ show was back in 2003, at Great Woods, towards the back of the lower section. Every other show, I've been closer to the back of the venue than the front, and somehow, I've loved every single show. I mean, I get it, I'd have loved to have been front row at either of the Fenway shows (or any of those Mansfield shows), but I am not going to waste my entire day sitting outside a venue. I used to do that in college, and the few years after, for hockey games, spending hours sitting around, waiting for doors to open, and to rush down for our preferred seats. It wasn't fun.

I'll bet Fenway was so nice not having to loiter over night in the urban jungle. There is no line till 9 correct? In that case, this guy has no more dibs on the 1st spot in the line than someone who arrives at 8:59 day of show.
If we are going to follow the rules of the horrible GA system, lets follow them all. #reserved>GA

Well, it's no lining up for entrance before 9am. Nothing stopping people from camping out to be the first in line. Basically, he's at the front of the line to get in line.

Ten Club hasnt addressed alternate line up places so I would start my own line whenever i got there. Since 10 club isnt involved, someone should definitely start the LIST. Perfectly acceptable since these lines are unrelated to 10 club.

    I'm fine being close enough.

Bombshell: I'm also not waiting in line more than 15 minutes for merch. Longer than that, not worth it to me.

Great idea! Chicago is SUPER safe to stay in same spot for 50+ hours and overnight. See you Saturday as I walk in right before show, beer in hand!

Last time I stayed over night was to see Eric Clapton. But that was Madison, many many moons ago. Good luck and safe adventures.

At least I won't be the only guy in cargo shorts.

Trust me you won't be, wife pointed out to me at the Fenway 2 show that almost every guy was wearing cargo shorts or camo cargo shorts.

I never realized how popular camo cargo shorts were.

Yeah, in Tampa, we were up in the upper deck. Went in shortly after doors opened, stopped for merch (no real line), got some water and a snack, and went to our seats. Floor was mostly empty. Had we been in GA, we would have had amazing positioning, with minimal effort.

 If true, that's awesome! Just laughing about what that would do to the more hardcore line people. Will they be able to handle this? I hope their heads don't explode or anything. :worried: I think giving out a small number of early GA entrance passes to GA ticket holders is a great idea. Jack White has a lottery where only 10 or 20 early admission passes are won by ticket holders who enter. I'm not sure I believe this report on FB though.... They wouldn't give early entry GA passes to people who don't have tickets. So how did they know if those people have GA tix??? They wouldn't just randomly pass those out. I call bullshit unless they managed to somehow find the people with GA tix at the Cubs game.

Yeah, I'll never understand the GA thing and waiting in line all day long. I've also yet to have GA for PJ (damn you, Raleigh!), but when I finally do, my plan is to do exactly what you did in Lexington.

I've lived in Chicago my whole life and still feel like I have so much to do! I couldn't imagine visiting here and spending hours in a GA or merch line. Enjoy the Sox game! It's a very underrated stadium with great food.

I wish all of you going for the rail for this show the best of luck! I did it in 2013 and got the rail, and totally lost it after the weather delay. If you manage to get to the front and security makes you leave because of lightning, do your best to delay your move until they absolutely force you to move back. It was really hard to get back to the front after that happened. Hopefully they are more prepared for you this year. It should be epic.

it was general admission. stuff happens.

It would be my biggest concern....not a lie at all. What do I do if I have to go in the middle of the night when everything is closed? What if ppl poach my spot? What if my chair is stolen? It makes me uncomfortable just thinking about it!

I have heard of people wearing diapers at festivals so they can stay at the railing all day..... I've also heard of ppl just peeing and taking dumps in said spot as well so they don't have to leave

i dont care what anyone says, a show on the rail is a really great experience. If you have the time and dont mind the wait, it is time well spent in my eyes. Its not essential, ive seen plenty of shows away from the rail, but its always a nice change to go for the front too.

Its always amusing that people seem to judge those who are prepared to do it, theres always a small hint of jealousy in the background somewhere, although that will never be admitted.
