Best 2-night run? Philly '16?

kosteva2kosteva2 Posts: 286
Anyone else think that the 2 Philly shows this tour among the best 2-night runs they've ever done?. A lot of overlap in the sets but each show was a very solid stand alone with night 2 being in the curtain conversation for best show ever. Night 1 seems to be in the top 20% or so for people who've seen a lot of shows. I was at the MSG run in '03, but this topped it. Maybe if you took Spectrum '09 nights 3 and 4 pretty close competition.

So funny how people are so concerned with how others rank or view the show they attended. Everybody wants to proclaim "their" show as the best ever. It's all totally subjective. We all have different experiences at every show, depending where you sat, which songs you prefer, etc. still cracks me up how people rank the best shows ever as if it were an objective fact :) glad you had a blast though!!

Spectrum '09 III and IV were better. Both of those were all time greats.

Exactly!!! Glad when people enjoy their respective shows, but to rank them ... Please!

No one has been to every show, and even if one had, ranking in terms of good, better, and best is almost completely subjective.

This is very true. I only compare the shows I've been at. But even with a single show, you sometimes in the same thread hear people say "wow the crowd was so dead" and "I've never rocked out so hard" right next to each other. As an example: I was at Camden in 2006 and then the Gorge later in the year. I had SO MUCH MORE FUN at Camden. Where I was the crowd was insane, I could barely hear the band even though the setlist looks very very mundane now. Gorge had such an incredible looking setlist but the lawn was DEAD: people sat down in mass when Dirty Frank came on for god's sake. So yeah, very subjective.

Agree. Somehow last night was the loudest show ever. But what about the 2010 MSG show? Or the Boston show where there was a 35 minute standing ovation between the first and second verse of Better Man? Or the Buenos Aires crowds....

All shows are great, but of course some are more notable than others.

Agree with you that people like to proclaim their show as best ever. Point of original post more to get perspective of others who've seen good runs to see where they think it stands. I've seen a lot of multi night runs, including some very popular pores and this one holds its own against them.

Nothing wrong with ranking shows/tours. People do it all the time for bands like the Grateful Dead and Phish where there's also a pretty sizeable catalog of unique shows, and there are certain ones that have the rep of being all timers regardless if people saw them live.

Eh...I feel completely different. I was at those spectrum shows and i think last night blew both of them away. Pj 4/29 was the best Pearl Jam show Ive seen, and probably the second best show Ive ever seen period. Only to be topped by My Morning Jacket's epic 4 hour late night set at bonnaroo 2008 in the rain.

I'm not saying 4/29 might not be the best of the four buuuuut, I just think 4/29 and III and IV are significantly ahead of 4/28 (which was also really really good). But of course we don't have to have the same opinion!

Not sure. I know it was about 36 songs..... And out of 25 shows, it's the only time I heard Release live.

After missing out on tickets for last night, I would not be opposed to bring back the money order process. Hahaha

I think what's impressive and truly noteworthy is just how well this band can still blow us all out of the water with these setlists and their energy after all these years.
To quote the 10C from Newsletter #8: "Please understand we have a lot of members and it is very hard to please everybody. If you are one of those unhappy people...please call 1-900-IDN-TCAR."

I've been to 5 shows (2 more in the next 50 hours!) and I still consider MSG 2003 as THE best concert I've been to in my life of ANY band. And PJ agrees with me on that one, since they released night 1 as a commercial DVD!

Agree with the 1st response, it's all subjective. That being said, neither of those two shows of the past few days is in my top 10. They were good PJ shows. I don't think the "album" shows will ever have the same flow and magic that a "regular" show will. Last two nights were good, fun shows.
