    ugh!

Something smells bad with that sale. Michael is a friend and I see no reason why that album is priced that high. Unless he signed it and left his dna on it somehow. I'll look it up to see what the deal is.

Update: I looked it up but I couldn't find anything with that cd or anything related to that Alaska recording costing that much money.

Tough to categorize "live albums" because there are bands like Pearl Jam and Wilco that release a ton of shows officially; others have released shows for free as MP3s but they weren't official albums for sale on CD; and now there are official pro-shot live performances archived on youtube. Excluding many from those categories, and adding to albums listed above, here's a few more:

Richard Thompson - Small Town Romance
Grateful Dead - Without a Net
The Who - Young Vic 1971 (Who's Next re-release bonus disc)
The Kinks - To The Bone
    Nirvana - MTV Unplugged
Soul Asylum - Welcome to the Minority live disc

Something got me to thinking about Lou Reed recently and I put this one on. Hadn't listened to it for quite a while and it just flipped me out all over again. What a killer live album!

Obviously, PJ bootlegs are going to top the list. Barring ALL of those, I mostly listen to exclusively live music nowadays, other than when my favorite bands put out something new. There's some killer sites out there with some good selections.
All that being said, here is some of my other favorites:

RHCP- Pack The Stadium Day 1/Day 2/Osaka (2007)
Clutch Live In Flint, MI (2004)
    Led Zeppelin Destroyer (1977)
Rolling Stones L.A. Friday (1975)/Some Girls Live in Texas (1978)
    Aerosmith Live Bootleg (1978)
    Nirvana Live & Loud (1993)
    Jane's Addiction A Cabinet Of Curiosities Disc 3 (1990)
    Fugazi Live in Germany 10/12/1990(1990)
    Jack White Bonnaroo 2014
The Raconteurs Henry Fonda Theatre 2008
    Black Crowes Norfolk, VA 11/11/1996
Stone Temple Pilots Live At The Centrum (1994)
Blind Melon Live At The Cabaret (1995)
    Alice In Chains Unplugged (1996)
Dave Matthews Band LiveTrax Volume 14 (2008)/Alpine Valley 2004
    Rush All The World's A Stage (1976)/Exit Stage Left (1981)/Working Men (2009)
    Soundgarden Live On I-5 (2011)
    311 6/22/2000, Atlanta, GA
    Wings Wings Over America (1976)
Mad Season Live At The Moore (1995)

I still need to find some good Who and U2 shows,as well as a few others, but live music is my preferred way to go. That really started with Aerosmith- Classics Live back in 7th grade and then the Pearl Jam- Live In Atlanta set in 1994. This is a big reason why they've been my favorite all these years. They make damn near every show available for purchase and provide many hours of enjoyment, along with their shows being so varied and long. Unplugged was really how I initially got into them as well.

I'll limit this too just a few PJ since I could fill it with them alone. Some of my favorites off the top of my head:

Pearl Jam - Melbourne '98 and Spectrum '09
Led Zeppelin - Live at the BBC
    Metallica - S&M
    AIC - Unplugged
    AC/DC - Live
    Dispatch - Gut the Van
O.A.R. - Anytime Now (Before they became so poppy)
Rodrigo Y Gabriela - Live in France
Johnny Cash - At Folsom Prison
John Coltran - Live at the Village Vanguard (So many choices)
Hendrix - Anything, but if I had to pick, it'd be Live at the Fillmore East
Bob Marley - Live! 1975 Lyceum Theatre
    It's a hopeless situation...

There used to be a time when I only wanted to hear the studio version of songs. In the last 10 years I've learned to love listening to live recordings more and more. It's fun to hear the different spins that bands put on songs and the crowd interaction/participation.

I'll have to give this one some thought but right off hand, having been there, I have to include this one:

“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

And this one is very cool:

I'm making an ammendment to my RUSH live album choices.

Exit Stage Left, Different Stages then All The World A Stage.

Different Stages is by far Rush's best live recording it's perfect and they recorded the best version of Closer To The Heart.
