Joe Louis Arena, Detroit MI to Close in 2017

The last time the guys played here, they mentioned how good the acoustics were. How about a farewell show, spring of 2017?

Be kind of cool if they did it during hockey season. I'm trying to figure out a way to see a Wings game at the Joe before it gets shut down.

My brother in law and I just planned a trip out cuz we had to see it before the end, going in Feb, it's gonna be awesome!
Wouldn't it be funny if the world ended in 2010, with lots of fire?

All those banners hanging up there are the reasons why the acoustics are so good
Oh please let it rain today.

Yah its a huge trip for me because I live in Victoria (which is sort of the birth place of the red wings). I have a friend that lives in Chicago and it's a 4hr drive (or 5.5 hour train ride) to Detroit from there. My plan was to go next October for the beginning of the season, but then Pearl Jam announced shows at Wrigley on my Birthday, so that seemed like a better time to go. Now I'm thinking two trips to Chicago. Once for the PJ shows, and hopefully the following April/May to drag my friend across four states to the Joe.

Great venue. Great city. Absolute classic show. So worth the drive from Brooklyn. An experience I'll never forget

Was just at the Joe a couple weeks ago for Muse and I have to say that arena has seen better days. A final PJ show there would be great, though. Hopefully they'll play the new arena on future tours, too.

New stadium under construction already, and it's gonna be sweet. I have no emotional ties to the Joe, so I can't wait for the new complex

Will the new stadium be renamed Joe Louis, or will it be a cursed corporation named venue?

Pretty sure the Joe Louis name won't transfer. Hopefully not a crappy corporation name but very likely to be that with Comerica Park and Ford Field nearby. For the moment it's still unnamed and just dubbed the Detroit Events Center.

Damn! That place looks like it is going to be SWANK! Pants, no way in hell those guys build a $650MM building without recouping some of the costs through corporate sponsorships. I would be beyond shocked if they call it Joe Louis.

They could what MSG does with Chase. They have a sponsorship deal. But other than Chase bridge. It's still called MSG. And not Chase Garden

I said this in the 2017 rumors thread, if they book a show(s) at The Joe for it's final sendoff I'll definitely be there. The acoustics really are amazing in there due to all those banners hanging from the ceiling.

    Great show in 2014!
    So glad I was there.
Band was on fire. The energy back & forth was incredible.

3-4 shows to close it similar to the spectrum would be fantastic!

Might as well play a couple shows at The Fox Theatre while they're there. Right? :rock_on:

    "Great venue"?

No offense to anyone out there, but that place is a dump. Yes, it is old & run down. The design & setup is horrible. One concourse for both the upper & lower level is a nightmare. Lines for food & beverages are ridiculous & the ones for the restrooms are worse. Then, you have the lines running into each other with people trying to just get through on top of all that.

Plus, it doesn't really have any mystic or nostalgia like the old Chicago Stadium, Maple Leaf Garden, Wrigley Field, or maybe even Fenway Park.

Of course this is just my opinion & I'm sure I'll take a beating from some of the Detroit faithful for it. Lol

Back to the point at hand...

Please play a handful of shows to close it out! :rock_on:

It will be called little ceasars arena. Tom Wilson the Red Wings president was on a local Morning Show here in Detroit and he said some bands have contacted the wings organization about possibly playing a show(s) to close out the Joe. He did not give any names though..!!?
