PJ, Please consider an Official Live Stream

Dear Pearl Jam,
Periscope has proved that there is a need. Technology can't be stopped so get ahead of it and provide it for your fans that can't go to the show. We love the excitement of hearing the concert in real time. If you don't, the fans will do it themselves and the result will be a lesser product. Charge us, but please make it affordable. You changed the rules with official Bootlegs, time to repeat your innovation.

Or just give us a free stream, no strings attached. I don't really see why 10C should be charging for this. These days that is easy and really doesn't have to cost them much of anything to do. They could just stream the audio and what shows on the big screen (or set up a stationary camera, as already suggested), so no extra staff required or anything like that. Someone would just have to work out how to link the feed.
I guess people are assuming they might be resisting this, and suggesting a pay on demand stream, because it would prevent some from buying actual concert tickets? .... I guess that's something to ponder... but I seriously doubt it would have an impact.

Widespread panic offers live free soundboard audio every show, they just provide a link to it on their webpage

I would disagree. They would need equipment to link that feed up to the internet. They would need some kind of high speed portable internet to stream it to the servers. They'd need to staff to make sure it doesn't crash. They'd need a server and software capable of streaming the shows. They would also need a large amount of available bandwidth to handle all the traffic of people wanting to stream it.

Not quite as easy as one would think. How does periscope make enough money to pay for its own bandwidth?

edit: So I googled it. Twitter owns periscrope and it doesn't make money.. lol. Most of the articles I found reference how twitter can monetize so they can make money off it in the future.

Yeah, they don't really needany of those things. Maybe just a new digital camera with internet capabilities, though I assume they already have shit like that, and a periscope account. ;) Sure, if they wanted something truly reliable they would have to put in minimal effort, but seriously, it's not hard to stream video anymore.

As I said, I doubt it would have an impact, but I realize that might be why they might be resisting.
People aren't THAT stupid. They know that a live show is better than watching it online. I haven't heard that the bands who do offer this suffer from a loss of ticket sales. If anything, it encourages fans to go see them because they see the streams and decide they really want to go to a show.

My Morning Jacket did their first ever live Webcast for their show at Red Rocks back in August!!
I went to this show AND bought the webcast...
because they did a "looping replay" of the show for 24 hours after it's initial airing!!
We were able to watch the show once we got back to our hotel room after the show...
AND a few more times the next day!!
They also gave you an option to purchase a "bundle" for $20 that gave you access to the webcast as well as a MP3 download of the show!!

    http://tourgigs.com/show/mymorningjacket_20150814_live/

My Morning Jacket and TourGigs are extremely excited to announce we will be teaming up to deliver a live stream of the Red Rocks Amphitheater show in Morrison, CO on August 14th, directed by none other than Danny Clinch.
The HD multi-cam webcast kicks off at 9PM MT, but in case you can’t watch it live, we’ve got you covered.
We will be playing a looping replay of the show for about 24 hours after it airs.
Anyone who purchases the webcast can watch the replay.
Don’t miss the FIRST EVER My Morning Jacket webcast of this sold-out show!

We’re also excited to offer an exclusive live stream and MP3 audio download bundle of this show for $20.
The audio will be available for download no later than Friday, August 21st, 2015.

I guess people are assuming they might be resisting this, and suggesting a pay on demand stream, because it would prevent some from buying actual concert tickets? .... I guess that's something to ponder... but I seriously doubt it would have an impact.

cause if they made it free than people would have less incentive to go to the actual concert
I don't know man, even in the NFL, which is generally slow to change and respond to things, has dropped most of its blackout rules because they have come to the very reasonable conclusion that blacking out the games doesn't suddenly light a fire under people to attend games they otherwise wouldn't. In fact, there are some legit arguments that it is actually quite to the contrary and that additional exposure actually drives future attendance. Likewise, the difference between a rock band filling or not filling an arena won't have anything to do with the presence of a live-stream (IMO of course). And it could be argued that more people will be exposed to Pearl Jam that otherwise wouldn't and perhaps they now become future concert-goers. I.e. the stream almost becomes advertisement especially if it is relatively inexpensive or free. You give people a taste that may not have ever otherwise seen Pearl Jam.

I am all for this also. Whether it's an official periscope feed, some other streaming site, or a "pay per view" event on cable, I would be all over that.

A fee thoughts on some of the comments above. If it was a stream of a show from my hometown, I would still do everything in my power to go to the show anyway (as would just about everyone else I would assume). Depending on what the feed was & the quality of it, I would probably get that too, unless it's just audio which we would eventually get as the bootleg.

In regards to the idea of streaming what is shown on the big screens at the show, I think there are probably a few concerns the band could have with that. I would think that towards the top of that list of concerns would be the savvyness of people looking to make a quick buck. If the band streamed what was on the screens, I'm sure someone would try putting that high quality footage together on BluRays & try selling it with none of that money going back to the band.

Some of these "better than nothing" videos are pretty high quality, if ask me. They are all available to watch for free on YouTube. I think its great PJ doesn't kill these like say Prince would. There is no way to fight technology, I love that our band emembraces this.
