Most dysfunctional bands ever, list them

picked up a copy of a mag with Pink Floyd and the story behind every album (awesome by the way) got me thinking, what are the most dysfunctional bands of all time? Does dysfunction sometimes lead to greatness?

here were bands with insane crazy stories in them I can think of, add to the list, maybe eve a story to go with it.

The Eagles- When Hell Freezes over
Pink Floyd- Waters and Gilmour, so sad they can;t get on the same page
Guns N' Roses- Axl is just an ass that made everyone in his band quit
Smashing Pumkins- Billy is just an ass that made everyone in his band quit
Metallica- Some kind of Monster pretty much sums up their shit fest

Certainly PJ and Soundgarden have had their share

So who should be on the list of we cannot just get along?

Again dogging on Billy Corgan. You know he was abused terribly as a child/teen? A lot of his controlling behavior was not him wanting to be an asshole or whatever. It's a result of real childhood trauma.

It's tough when you throw a bunch of creative people together to work on one thing together. Being in a relationship with one person is difficult. Being in one with 4 or more people can stretch anyone's patience. Usually there has to be one acknowledged leader, but with whole group input, to have a healthy group situation. When the balance of influence starts turning, things get tenuous. I am just glad PJ is still around.
I will add The Misfits to the list.
1991- Hollywood Palladium, California with Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains -RIP Magazine Show Oct. 6th
    1992- Lollapalooza, Irvine, California
    Nothing since then. I suck.
2016- Fenway Park, Boston - Both glorious nights
    2022- Oakland Night 2

Axl was definitely not the only reason GnR fell apart. You had him (a big ego guy) with a bunch of heroin addicts and alcoholics. That group was not constructed to last more than five years at all. I blame all of them equally.

Depeche Mode was super fucked up for quite awhile, apparently. One of them said at one point that it was like being a patient in a travelling insane asylum, and not in a good way.

    The Smiths
    The Police
The Clash - Joe Strummer referred to Mick Jones circa Combat Rock as "Liz Taylor in a filthy mood."
Tom Petty - Stan Lynch ever since Full Moon Fever to him leaving.
    Van Halen and Van Hagar

I once saw historic dysfunction play out right before my eyes: Saw the Kinks in probably '87 or so, and Ray and Dave Davies had a fight right on stage, Dave Davies stormed off during a song, they played a few more but definitely ended the show early. It was like seeing the Police and Sting and Stewart Copeland hashing it out, but with the added animosity that only blood brothers can have for each other.... Sad but historic to see.

Brian Jonestown massacre - don't think they ever really "made it", but they have a really good dvd out about them and the dandy warhols called "dig!"

Agree with the black crowes being a mess.

Van Halen would have to be here for so many reasons.
Edit: Just saw InHiding80 already listed them.

The main person was a raging heroin addict right? Great in concert. Great band.

    The Rollingstones still argue today.

Hearing about Sabbath during their drug fueled days is quite entertaining.

CSNY. Young was quite weird at times. Great story of him leaping over a balcony with a broken leg to "get away" from the band.

I'll throw some metal into the ring...

Dokken. Don Dokken & George Lynch never could get along, but I give them props for trying on several occasions.

Damn near anything involving Dave Mustaine. There is an entire Wikipedia article titled "List of Megadeth band members" because there are too fucking many to put in the quick facts box on Megadeth's main article. Hetfield & Lars couldn't even stand the guy!

Has anyone ever heard of Mayhem? Those fuckers were just batshit crazy!!

Also Frank Zappa and the Mothers. I hear Frank was a real mother to work /play with.

Oh yeah, forgot about ol' G.G. I saw the Murder Junkies open for CKY a few years back. It was a shit show indeed. But thankfully not a literal shit show like when GG was still around!!!

For we're gonna add solo acts, Sir Elton. I finally started getting into his albums of late. His diva antics and drug usage are no secret. You have to be on cocaine if you perform in a Donald Duck costume in concert.

Wolfmother is a good example of a modern one: one guy, and about 15 ex members.

Haha! That was my first go-to answer, for sure!

    Others:

Dinosaur Jr: J, Lou and Murph nearly killed each other off in the early days but somehow managed to pull it all back together in a big way.

Crosby Still and Nash: Bonus points for when Nash, just prior to Crosby's liver surgery, leaned over and told him, “Hey, if you leave me here with Stills, I'll fucking kill you."

Surely we have to include The Ramones on this list!

The Cure - Shiver and Shake is about Tolhurst and how lazy he was at the time. I hear Smith and Gallup fought backstage when Pornography was released.
