Ames Bros T-shirt sizing and quality

BF89905BF89905 Posts: 1,339
Hello,
I'm looking for first hand feedback from anyone who has purchased and worn an Ames Bros. Shirt. I'm looking at the Don't Start Wars shirt that is noted as slim fit, 100% cotton. 175lbs/ 5'9", a suggestion on sizing would be appreciated also. I have one PJ shirt, which is from the 9.11.11 Toronto show..... Would it be wise to use this shirt as a sizing reference? I don't think it's labelled slim fit.
Thank you for any constructive feedback. Have a nice week

I got a PJ shirt from them and it was very thin and shrunk unevenly in the dryer (even on gentle). Might have been okay if it never went in the dryer. Definitely stopped me from buying any other Ames T-shirts.

I never dry mine. My shirts are soft & hold up well.

I've bought several Ames shirts. They are thin which are fine for hot weather & I only put them in the dryer to take out the wrinkles & then stretch them out a bit & hang to dry. Don't forget about them in there though. I find the Ames shirts to be very long too. Just pulled one out & it's a large. Measures 22" from armpit to armpit & it's 29" long from shoulder to bottom.

I have three Ames Bros shirts and they are a tad on the tight side for my typical size but they have started to stretch out over time and are starting to feel comfortable. But whenever I wash them, I always hang dry them. Not a second in the dryer.

It's amazing that in 2015 companies make shirts with shitty quality. I bought 2 Ames shirts and I'll never buy another again. Necks super huge on one of the shirts I got and the other was just not right in size and quality. Def wasn't worth the money I spent on them. I mean, people are actually saying don't dry them in the machine. You buy a shirt and can't dry it in the machine because it'll shrink unevenly. That's quality?

Just because you can't put something in a dryer doesn't mean it's bad quality. Cashmere sweaters or any sweater should never be put in a dryer. Ames Bros shirts are good quality but the cut and fit are not for everybody.

I didn't say the t-shirt was comparable to cashmere. I said that just because it can't be put in a dryer doesn't mean it's poor quality.

It's poor Fucken quality. Read all the complaints. No excuse for shitty size issues or shrinkage.

And here I am, two point five years later, checking on how Ames shirts sizes fit. 40% off this weekend on their site. Fak, might not order cuz my dryer dries like a desert blown wind with chicken corn pops and saddle bronc skins.
Or I could just not dry them but rather hang them like my crocodile mops in my salon de la pork chops.
    Coffee.

I find their only style of shirt with a fit that I like is the “snow slub”.  It’s a softer shirt and I always hang-to-dry.

It varies. You have to pay attention to the type of shirt you're selecting for the given design, especially anything described as "slimfit" or "snug." I have the black "slimfit" Don't Start Wars shirt in XL, and it shrank down to about a Medium. I have the Shark vs. Bear Classic Brown in XL, and it still fits like an XL. I wash cold, tumble on low for about 15 minutes, then hang all my shirts. The 50/50 blended shirts won't shrink quite as much as the 100% cotton. Hope that helps!

Mine fit just fine,  and they've lasted just fine,  been through many washes. Oldest Ames bro shirt is 4 years.

They are totally inconsistent.    Ive ordered XL shirts that barely cover my biceps and others that are true to the size.  Same with the fabric.  Some of the shirts are very thin and others are of normal weight. Buyer beware. Love the designs but you never know what you are going to get. That is my experience anyway. Never use the dryer, I dont even own one!
