Can we please talk about Europe?

I know you've all probably made your plans already. But I'm having a mini meltdown over here looking at prices for flights. Someone mentioned in a thread that there are reasonably priced direct flights between JFK and Milan. My trip starts in Brussels and ends in London. Because it just does. It would actually be cheaper for me to fly into Milan and then get a flight to Brussels the next day than it would be to fly directly to Brussels (same goes for London-Milan-JFK vs. London-JFK).
What gives?

What'd all you responsible human beings who already made plans end up going for?

Why is this new forum such a ghosttown? I needs help!

It's summer time and Europe is a vacation spot. If you're trying to go to Europe cheap, the summer is not the time do it. Sorry, but it's the truth.

    Amsterdam options-

If you don't mind making some extra stops and figuring out the times.. I found you can get some decent prices RT from the U.S. to Dublin for around $1000+- ....then book out of Dublin to Amsterdam, which seems to be going for about $200-250 in Mid-June.... if you can dial in this combo with the correct times, I found it to be about about $400 cheaper. The gamble is delays, but normally summer months see a lot less delays.

Another option is flying into BRU- Brussels, which seems to be about $200 cheaper than AMS... easy train ride from there to AMS or like a $20+- bus ride

I hear you, and I'll admit I wasn't expecting "cheap", but I sure as shit wasn't expecting it to be this much more expensive than airfare to/from New Zealand/Australia. Because it's a shorter distance to Europe.
Thanks for the input. Anyone have experience flying out of Gatwick as opposed to Heathrow?

I'm looking into your advice now. I think the problem is I was not looking at RT flights, because I'm flying into one city and out of another. I'm looking at "Multi-City" tickets now.

I am planning on flying JFK-Brussels to do some sightseeing in Belgium before going to Amsterdam for the shows. I figured I'd fly home from London. I'm actually looking into Aer Lingus now, so who knows maybe I'll add a stayover in Dublin to my plans.

Aer Lingus appears to have a sale on. I booked a multicity flight with them from ny-brussels and then london-ny with one short stop in dublin on each flight for just under $1200 r/t, including meal and checked bag.

You're lucky to be flying out of NY... NY and Boston are the cheapest out of the US. Looks like prices into Paris have dropped a little over the last couple of days. Actually found some flights out of BOS and JFK through Iceland Air to AMS for under $1000.

By the way, all international flight include a meal and 1 bag.

Kayak is still showing "70% wait- prices to likely drop in next 7 days "on tickets to Amsterdam...

Flying from Boston to Amsterdam and catching a puddle jumper to Milan. Seeing each shown until Oslo then flying back to Amsterdam. When I priced the trip it was much cheaper to fly into and out of the same city, and I wanted a city with one airport - e.g., not Paris. Luckily I had enough miles for the Boston to Amsterdam ticket which was 1400 otherwise. The trip is not cheap. I am estimating 10k for 2 weeks for my wife and I.
  • I was comparing Neil Young's Tour dates with Pearl Jam's Euro Tour dates:
    PJ: 7/20 Milan, 7/22 Triest, 7/25 Vienna
    NY: 7/21 Borolo, 7/23 Vienna

Do you think there is a change Eddie might appear on stage with Neil Young in Borolo or Vienna? Which date do you think is more likely?
  • Ok... disregard my last comment, just realized I mixed up June and July.

Flights are getting worse and worse, try flying into AMS perhaps, LHR is usually an expensive airport to fly into and that is where most international flights going to London land. BRU is expensive as well. I got a pretty solid deal for waiting to AMS leaving OSL. PM Me if you need any help or suggestions regarding travel issues.

Sounds like a bunch of Americans on this thread. Anyone traveling from London to Milton Keynes on July 11th? What is the best mode of transport to the National Bowl?
Also, anyone buy VIP Hot Tickets? Is it worth it? Thanks!

I have one extra 10c ticket to the Stockholm show on the 28th, if anyone is interested email me at josh.lonsk@yahoo.com. Must also be a hockey fan to claim it.
