Your Best Album Pairs

Sometimes albums seem to belong together, compliment one another, or work great side by side. Album buddies, if you will. Here's some that come immediately to my mind:

A Farewell to Kings and Hemispheres

Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures

Led Zeppelin IV and Houses of the Holy (hard to explain, but every other Zeppelin album seems to stand on its own, but these two have always seemed a pair to me)

High And Dry & Pyromania....Def Leppard more so than Hysteria which took them to a whole other level besides it sounded completely different.

Ride The Lightening & Master Of Puppets......Metallica.....one seem to elevate itself over the other.

Ghost In The Machine & Sycronicity .....The Police

Crystal Planet & Engines Of Creation.....Joe Satriani

Stay Human & Everyone Deserves Music....Michael Franti And Spearhead

1999 & Purple Rain....Prince

Up Against The Wall & Thriller......Michael Jackson

The Unforgetable Fire & The Joshua Tree.....U2

Piece of Mind and Powerslave (Maiden)

Holy Diver and The Last in Line (Dio)

Powerage & Highway To Hell....ACDC

Ten & Vs....PJ

Duke & Abacab.....Genesis

Van Halen I & I I....then...Women And Children First & Fair Warning

Screaming for Vengeance and Defenders of the Faith (Judas Priest)

Lots more, however mine eyes can't take anymore.

    I can see that, too, but to me Yield and Binaural both being really textured albums, but have really different vibes puts them together in my mind. Definitely would've added No Code if it was trio of albums, as it's just PJ at their most creative and unique.

    I'd be more apt to pair No Code with Vitalogy as a pair....Both raw, but Vitalogy being more straight ahead and basic and No Code being more exploratory.

    Would've loved to add a Zeppelin pair, but I couldn't really decide 2 that went together. Each album is complementary to the entire catalog. If pressed I might with II and III, but I'm not sure that fits the bill for me.

    Great ones already listed, submitting a few of my favorite back-to-backs, purely off of ones I lived through and my nostalgia at the time I first enjoyed them:

    Prince: 1999 --> Purple Rain
    Michael Jackson: Thriller --> Bad (such a huge fan as a kid)
    Aerosmith: Pump --> Get a Grip
    R.E.M.: most of their early discography in retrospect, but my eyes unfortunately weren't opened until Out of Mind --> Automatic for the People
    Public Enemy: It Takes a Nation of Millions... --> Fear of a Black Planet
    Nirvana: Nevermind --> In Utero
    Pearl Jam: Ten --> Vs.
    Rage Against the Machine: s/t --> Evil Empire
    Weird Al Yankovic: Off the Deep End --> Alapalooza
    Beck: Mellow Gold --> Odelat
    NIN: Pretty Hate Machine --> The Downward Spiral (was hard to choose that over The Downward Spiral --> The Fragile, but I word PHM out)
    Tool: Aenima --> Lateralus
    Devin Townsend: Terria --> Accelerated Evolution
    Weezer: s/t (Blue) --> Pinkerton
    Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?

    He didn't believe me that I went the show at the Hampton Coliseum till I showed him my tank yellow top shirt from the tour. It was the oddest shirt that it was half tshirt half tank top. Oh he had just white wine and a ceaser salad. He did leave me a nice, non of my co workers and the patrons knew who he was.

    Peace
