Tax time...

Ah yes, that wonderful time of the year where I get some money to play with.
And yes, I know, I am getting money because I chose to give the government an interest free loan.
Anyway, this year I am taking my refund and going somewhere WARM.

So, if you get a refund this year.
What are you doing with your cash?

Not expecting a refund. Haven't gotten one on years. But if we get one probably spend it on something frivolous.

  • I owe the government a bunch of money from last years taxes. Hopefully this year's taxes will pay those off.

got a nice return this year. filed my taxes around 1/17, federal return was deposited into my checking account on 2/6. couldn't believe how quickly i got my money. getting a small return from the state which i should finally see around august with the pace that illinois processes their returns.

while i would rather spend it on shit i won't need a year from now, the fiancé wants me to save it and put it towards buying a place this summer/fall. psh... women and their logic and priorities.

Going by the first few posts in this thread, I hereby dub you Needy McCready!

No idea what our tax returns will yield; we got married last year so gotta try a few different options.

Refund will be going to a new car for me.

I have no clue what I owe/will get. It's been a crazy adjustment year... Last semester of college scholarships (but I paid the tuition in 2012 so i don't think it balances out...), got a job, moved to a different state, and starting paying student loans. If I don't owe anything I'll be happy. If I get a refund, that's a nice bonus.

You should get your IL return pretty quick, if you filed electronically. I don't remember waiting very long for mine, back in my IL days ...

And I totally understand your issues. My wife keeps talking about saving up money for Europe. But that's four months from now ... we could have a flipped Benny now!

I haven't gotten a dime back in 6-7 years. I almost always break even with the Feds and then have to cut a fat check to the stupid state of Arizona.
Knowing that I'm not getting a damn thing back from them, I'm not filing until the last minute.

It would be nice to every so often get something...a nice little surprise.
    Oh well.

I'm just hoping not to owe more than $1000. I try to break even and did a pretty good job last year, but I refinanced the house at a 2.625% interest rate early last year as opposed to the >5% rate I did have.

I'll skip the annual lecture on why it's a lot better to break even or owe a little than get a big refund....or maybe I won't ;-)

The last 5 or so years I've had to pay, after some investigation I realized that not enough was being taken off each pay period. We shall see......Still waiting for RRSP receipts before I can take to the accountant. Good for those of you that do your own, I think I would screw it up!
  • I shall be using my refund to go to Europe to see our favorite band.

The government don't give a crap if and when you file if they owe you money. They are sitting on it interest free.

"Tax return". The last time I had one of those was the year I fell off my Pterodactyl.
