'Swallowed Whole' the best of LB?

This song is just so diverse and intense that I consider it to be among the greatest of Lightning Bolt.
I love the rhythm differences and especially the slow part where Ed sings about "...Whispered songs inside the wind...Breathing in forgiveness".

The final notes are challenging as well: "...And the chapter I've not read... Turn the page..."

I love it, but I think we are a minority. This song doesn't get enough love. Sounds a ton like the Who to me.

Count me in. I'm not really sure what my favorite is, but "Swallowed Whole" would have to at least be top three. I love how it builds intensity, kind of like "Unthought Known" in that way, though not quite as good.

My favorite song off LB, hands down. I feel like it could have been on the Into The Wild album as well.

While I've always liked Swallowed Whole I always thought it's the most 'Backspacer' sounding song on Lightning Bolt. Though it probably would've been the best song on that album.

  • My 10c vinyl came with the Swallowed Whole post card, then I noticed the merch hoodie took the idea of the swallowed whole idea and just dropped the SW and added PJ. That being said, and I love SW but my go to on LB is actually Pendulum. SW sounds like the best of Into the Wild soundtrack meets Stone, Mike, Jeff and Matt. Pendulum to me is the Indifference 20 years later. Can't wait for for it to not be an opener and move into encore 2 placement. SW is a completely solid song though!

Most definitely as it reminds me of Amongst The Waves. Very spiritual and moving. I love SW and appreciate this thread very much!!

SW is my favorite from the album (though, for some reason, I've listened to "Sirens" more often). I honestly can't fathom how any PJ fan can not like this song.

Agreed. I also think the opening chords evoke Bruce Springsteen a bit.

Pendulum is my favorite from LB, but I really like Swallowed Whole.

With no quiet to be found
    Spirit lifted off the ground
And what lies beyond the grave
    Might be welcome change
Time will come, come what may
    With now rest in peace

Swallowed Whole was one of my favourites on my first listen to Lightning Bolt and I still love it. Every time I hear it, I can't stop singing it even though it's finished!!!!
I can't wait to see it live.
