Non-Europeans...which show(s) are you hitting?

Just curious which individual shows or routes non-Europeans are taking and the reasons.

I've analyzed most combinations but haven't decided yet. Obviously need to consider time, money, transportation, venues, tickets.

after much debate, I think we're putting in for Milan, Trieste, and Vienna.

it's a combination of timing (all 3 are within 8 days) as well as general proximity - I could conceivably do all of them without a ton of additional travel, but also enough time to travel through parts of Italy, france, Switzerland, and Austria as time permits. this route was also influenced by wine. where can I get the best wine...

also, I have no desire to be part of a festival, so while other combinations might also have those same date/geography benefits they are less ideal because of the open festival atmosphere. that's my 2 cents.

now whether I get all 3 (or any) remains to be seen.
I still can't figure out how to change my username...

Milan to Oslo and everything in between.

Probably gonna put in for Amsterdam and Milan. Sucks that they are Mon/Fri, especially since I will be flying standby across the pond, which means that I will most likely have to leave the states on Friday instead of Saturday and stay until the Monday after Milan.

The only other option was to do Milan-Trieste, but getting back from Trieste was going to be too tricky, or Leeds-Milton Keynes.

Oh well. We'll see how the lotto plays out in the next couple of days.

yeah, that was my issue too, so we're leaning towards Amst/Milan too.

Only considering Vienna/Berlin/Stockholm/Oslo because that's the best run of non-stadium/non-festival shows. May end up doing just Vienna and Berlin so that I have some time before and after to see some sights. Or doing nothing at all and save for more US dates instead!

Also thought about Amsterdam because I'm almost certain they will add another show, however I prefer to do shows later in the tour if I can't do all the shows.

Finally, was also considering Leeds, by far sounds like the best venue and they would have hit their groove by then. However, unless they add another UK non-stadium/festival show, it doesn't really get me a lot of shows, plus I'd prefer to visit a new country.

I'm hoping for Leeds-have my fingers crossed for 10c tix. I actually can't leave the country til July, since my oldest niece is getting married at the end of June. Somehow, I don't think my brother would understand if I told him I had to miss his daughter's wedding to attend some PJ shows in Europe!!

yeah, but that burned me in Seattle. not that I regret traveling for that show, but still don't understand how a 2nd show didn't get added.

I'm going for Amsterdam, Milan, Berlin, Leeds and Milton Keynes.
If a show gets added between Amsterdam and Milan I'll try to do that too. If more UK dates get added in Ireland or Scotland I'll do those as well.
    I'll be sightseeing in between.

Finally going to make the trip over to see them. Been working out dozens of different trips on Expedia and have finally settled on Stockholm. Going to spend a few days in Copenhagen and then take the train up for the show and a few more days in Stockholm. Haven't been to Europe since 2003, can't wait.

yeah, that was my issue too, so we're leaning towards Amst/Milan too.

Isn't there a train between Milan and Trieste that takes about 4 to 5 hours? Is this more of a time issue to get to the next show or am I missing something?

We were looking at Amsterdam through Trieste, but that flight from Amsterdam to Milan isn't cheap. The train looks like a long ride too, so I think we will do Milan and Trieste. The flights to and from Milan really fit into our budget too.

I couldnt find it. Google says it's a 23 hour train/bus ride to Trieste (most of that is a layover but still time). Do you have a link to that train you're thinking of?

    nevermind. ItaliaRail, right?

Dude! Are you trying to get me divorced?! Amsterdam (again) and Milan was a stretch, but I don't think that the missus is gonna fly with a 3rd show in a week! (unless there is a 2nd Amsterdam announced later???? :?: )

The only reason I threw Amsterdam in there instead of Milan-Trieste was that with the extra day or two, I could sell the trip if we maybe went to Paris for a couple of days, or maybe Venice or Munich. Oh and both of those shows are outside from what I can tell?

My problem is that I will be flying standby, so I am better suited to flying midweek instead of the weekend and with Amsterdam on Monday and Milan on Friday, I'm pretty much screwed, unless I want to take a week and a half off!

Fuck it though, I'll figure it out! Planes or trains, I'll make it to a couple of shows. I just don't feel the stadiums or the UK shows. I don't know why. Maybe the rain delay at Wrigley has me liking the option of an arena instead?

the best combo to do is really vienna-berlin..back to back shows, easy to travel and if u have a week vacation,u can visit some other place..from milan to venice is a 3 hours train if i rememebr well, did it at 2007
and i thinki, after public sale ,and will be minutes to go sold out,.amsterdam 2 will be added..
as for get you divorced,i told u .,you shouldnt get married in the first place!!

I agree 100%...about the shows not the marriage ;)

Unfortunately, my particular employer doesn't fly into either VIE or TXL, so it would require some travelling around just to get from a gateway to/from either city.

The best option may really be Milan-Trieste, since it is a Fri/Sun combo. That gives me plenty of time early in the week to get there and time on Mon/Tue to get out.

Now I'm second guessing my Amsterdam/Milan combo, dammit!

I am doing the Milan-Trieste-Vienna stretch. I love taking the trains, and if we can have a party train from Milan to Trieste - even better!

But for me this is the easiest stretch of shows, plus I've never been to Italy or Austria so LET'S DO IT!

Hey Max. . . I'll be flying standby (NRSA) as well.

    Looking at:

    Milan/Trieste/Berlin.

I would fly into MXP (fingers crossed for first or business), hopefully catch a ride to Trieste, spend a couple of days in Venice and finally ZED to Berlin.

Average numer of rainy days in Milan in June seem to be 12. But the precipitation is not that high.

San Siro Stadium has a roof but I dont know whether it covers the whole stadium. Probably, it only covers the sitting area. But I read that the grass area has good drainage and heating.

So I guess, even if there is a rain at the show day, it will not affect the show like it happened in Wrigley, hopefully.
What's your part, who you are?

    2014: Milano, Trieste, Vienna, Berlin

Taking a train from Milan to Trieste should be easy, about 4 hours, direct connection. Check Trenitalia.com closer to time and look for the "Freccia" trains (means arrow, those are the fast ones...usually pretty clean and new. for italian standards  ) You can start to buy tickets 4 months before the day of travel.

Going from Trieste to Vienna, there's no direct connection anymore (blame the italian railways), but you can change in Udine and then take a direct train to Vienna. Shortest time there is 7:30 hours. There's also a night train going, which has you change in Mestre, and brings you to Vienna at 8 in the morning.

Beware that trenitalia is a bit weird sometimes, and won't let you print your own online tickets, you have to get them by normal mail. So make sure you book way in advance so your tickets actually reach you before you're traveling. For the journey from Trieste to Vienna, you can also book at oebb.at (the Austrian Railways website), which might be easier.
