I for one love that song. Different strokes for different folks I guess. I just think the song gets bashed wayyy too much...

I like this song a lot. I especially like it because when played live at my show in Dallas it was dedicated to Ed's sister and her family. I've just thought it was a great song. 8-)

Ever since hearing it's debut at Wrigley I was scouring for official lyrics. I just think it's beautiful.

I never bash/hate anything PJ does, but for me it's a little too soft and direct. I will not say cheezy, cause that's a bit harsh, but let's just say when I heard it on Gray's Anatomy I thought it fit a little too well.

Wait, why did I experience it on Grays Anatomy in the first place, you ask? I'm with ya, but I do not have exclusive control of the viewing choices in my house.

For me, it never really gets going. The one time it does (when hurricanes and cyclones raged....) its over soo quickly.
I dont hate it, just wish the bridge went on a bit longer

I think in general any time Ed either tries to have fun or sings about love people don't like it. They want angry Ed.

    I wouldn't say hate.

When Future Days is compared to the rest of the Lightning Bolt songs, it falls to the bottom, but that's only becuase the rest are phenomenal. Future Days is great, just slightly lower than the others (excluding Sleeping By Myself..)

Not my favorite from Lightning Bolt, but I really like it. Especially after seeing it in Seattle, fantastic live song.

It's where Ed's mindset is these days. He's still angry, but he also has the sappier/love side coming through more and more. I like it. There's plenty of old/other material if this side of Ed is not your thing. 1 or 2 songs like this on an album are fine with me.

Part of the backlash could be from people who just can't relate to it.

Heard it at Wrigley. I wasn't really into it. I definitely didn't care for the piano intro/outro.

Heard it on the album. My opinion didn't change.

Heard it in Buffalo. Piano intro but no outro: much better.

Heard it in Seattle. intro played on the organ this time, no outro: FUCKING FANTASTIC!

I guess you could say it's grown on me.

I'm guessing the crummy lyrics, but the Celine Dion style music doesn't help.

I love most of the Ed solo songs and slow acoustic tunes...but this one doesnt float my boat.
So, when they play it live, do they keep the cheesy piano intro/close, or not?

I think it's perfectly fine. I really like Sleeping By Myself anyway, but Future Days is a nice little song. And as a slower tempo, album closing sort of live song it's much, much, much better than The End.
All my favourite singers have stolen all of my best lines.

THis about sums it up for me, i don't love the song still to this moment but getting rid casio keyboard intro and outro and having boom play the organ on the intro is much better.
Enjoy difference. Without it we're all boring!

I don't mind the intro...but the outro is not really needed.

Yeah, I think it's a beautiful song musically and lyrically. I love the piano intro and outro. Best lyric is:

    When hurricanes and typhoons rage
When wind turns dirt to dust
When floods they came and tides they raised
    Never closer became us

I just think that's incredible imagery and can be related on a literal and figurative level. For me, I make a connection to Hurricane Sandy and a lot of my family and friends who either lost homes or had extensive damage. That's a pretty literal interpretation, but obviously a huge emotional impact. I can also connect it to my marriage and how going through the hard times makes you stronger.

I think it's a fantastic song and I loved it from the first listen. As a bonus, if you restart the album after this, somehow Getaway sounds even better. I think it's the shift from emotional and contemplative to high energy, defiance, and fun.
"Darkness comes in waves, tell me, why invite it to stay?"

Ahh, thanks...lazy me. I read the first page only.
I despise the intro so much, ive been thinking of editing it out and reburing the CD to see if I like the song better. But thats like Bob Ross painting over a Picasso kinda...
