Is it time to retire Yellow Ledbetter?

Those of us who've seen multiple shows have undoubtedly seen Yellow Ledbetter close a show on multiple occasions. I dearly love this song,...especially back in the 90's. But IMO there comes a time to try something different,...maybe semi-retire this song. Introduce a new closer (not RITFW),...maybe Alive should be the one,...or something appropriately different every night. Maybe Ledbetter provides the perfect closure to the band as well. Interesting to think what songs would fit the bill as alternative closers,.... :? :? :?

Release would work, Inside Job ? .......

I have seen it at less than half my shows so I am cool with it continuing to get played.

I'm generally in the "play whatever you want" camp. I'm never really in favor of retiring any song. It doesn't bother me, but it also wouldn't bother me if it closed less shows.

I was at a show in which Baba O'Riley was played AFTER YL ... so how 'bout that?

Not a chance in hell. It IS the staple closing song - there is no other song to close out a night better than Y Led.

I still think it makes the perfect closer.

I've also been to a few shows where they played a song after Yellow Ledbetter and that's always pretty sweet because you were expecting the show to be over and Eddie call's for one more song :)

    Never!!

    Such a great closing song.
It's kinda surreal because they normally turn the house lights up so we can see each other,
The smiles, tears and power of one of the best songs in the catalog.

I'ts a too bad it's over but man I love this song kinda situation.

Interesting question. I'd say no because of it's awesomeness to close out a show. It doesn't happen every time.

    That said...

I wish Alive would be shuffled in and out a bit more...and moved around the set list. They can get away without playing it. Hell Even Flow, Daughter, Black, Small Town, & Jeremy arent played every night...you don't know if YL will be the last song, but you always know Alive will be played. Hope that changes. It's almost like a novelty now. It's not like it's Buffett's 'Margaritaville'. Rant over.

    Carry on...
I love to turn you on

I like it. You wait for the first couple of notes and the lights to come on.

The band sits down as Mike finishes his solo they say goodbye!

    It closes out the night!!

    Nicely put :)

I've seen Indifference once and that was fun with the lights on, but I've taken my son to 2 PJ shows and I was hoping for Yellow Ledbetter at one of them but it didn't happen.

I think Eddie should continue to create special set lists for us, just as he has been, but my feeling is that YL is "the star that went on top"

There are two things that are sacred:
    Release opener
    Yellow Ledbetter closer.

    Got it?
