I like it alot. Great lyrics, fast, great riff. bravo. Very excited for new PJ 8.5/10
  • To me it is more metal than anything they've ever done and has some punk elements as well. It's certainly no Devo style 'The Fixer' vibe. I love it.

You could give the track and lyrics to King Diamond, or Lemmy, and have a wikkid tune

I agree 100%. Would not surprise me at all to find out that Mike wrote this song. Has a lot of his early 80s metal influences in it. I hear a lot of Maiden. I was listening to King Diamond today, and the King could def put some lyrics on this. At first, I was thinking "very punky". Now I am hearing some epic 80s metal influence. Speed up the guitars a lot and add some double bass, could even get an early Slayer sound like from the Show No Mercy days.

Damn I love this fuckin band so much. Thank you so much PJ for always providing my life with a badass soundtrack!

It's solid. Good, but not great. The opening riff is good. I agree with the statement that this isn't first single off a new album quality.

FIrst, let me say that I am enjoying the new song. However, I wish it got me as excited for the new album as White Limo did for Wasting Light. Not that I'm comparing, but I do wish it gave me that, "fuck yeah" I want more of this NOW kind of vibe.

Like I said, it's good and I am enjoying it but it's not making me impatient for October 15th.

Agreed. It's one of those songs that I will enjoy live and enjoy when it comes on in the car, but If I'm trying to turn one of my friends on to Pearl Jam, it wouldn't make the playlist I would give them.

Wasting Light... what an album man, what an album. White Limo ended up being one of my least favorite tracks on there haha.

I think it's funny that people are so tired of the shorter, punk-influenced tunes when those have been a huge part of their sound for quite some time now and this is the best they've done it since S/T. This song, in my opinion, is worlds beyond anything in that style on Backspacer. So good! Bravo, gentlemen....
  • Pearl jam Def coming out punching in this new song. Def agree STBC, kinda feel with a touch of comatose and a little red hot chili pepper feel. I love the opening riff. Really excited for the new album.

I have another review to share. I was just blaring MYM and my 4 year old son said "Daddy, is that Pearl Jam?" I said, "Yes, it's a new song called Mind Your Manners". My son replied "I like Mind Your Manners daddy. Pearl Jam rocks"

    I couldn't agree more.

First Listen- It sounds different, and also familiar- both good things. I need to listen to it a few more times before I weigh in for real. I listened to it on my (crappy) laptop speakers, so by no means did I get the full effect. It was faster than I thought it would be (don't know why, but I was expecting something mid-speed for this single). Off to listen half a dozen more times and then I'll be back to post ;)

I felt the same way. New but coming from somewhere I've heard before. I love it and it was worth the wait. Very aggressive and Eddie keeps coming at you. I have to admit I didn't expect this after their last album, which I enjoyed. From the opening riff all the way through it is a kick to the teeth and I love it!

Really silly question, but is there some place I can read the lyrics to MYM? I very much like the song but would love to decipher everything Eddie is singing. For me, it's always been about the words. And PJ's do so touch my heart. Thanks for any help I can get.
I wish a guy like Eddie, would like me.

On first listen (and granted just the first listen) ... I like basically everything on Backspacer better. Of course, since I turned like 15, I've always found greater joy in mid-tempo Pearl Jam.

Punked-out Pearl Jam doesn't do it for me anymore.
everybody wants the most they can possibly get
for the least they could possibly do
  • I want to like it but I just don't.

Haven't been this put off by a PJ lead single since "Who You Are." That song was experimental and out there so it eventually grew on me but this just sounds like generic punk mixed with a bad Motorhead impression. Both WWS and Fixer aren't the bands best tracks but they still sound like Pearl Jam to me. It's hard to describe exactly but this sounds more artificial...no character to it.

The album title has to be a joke. It's a joke right?
    So this life is sacrifice...
