Looking for constructive advice re: Mac laptops

Hello,
I'm looking go purchase a laptop in the near future. I was originally focusing on ultrabooks exclusively: Asus Zenbook 31A, Sony Vaio PRO 13, Samsung Series 7, and a Macbook Air.

I've used Windows at home for years and a combination of Windows and Mac OS's at work for the better part of the past decade.

This morning I discovered Apple has a refurbished section go their online store that has led me to narrow my options down to the Samsung Series 7 Ultrabook, and two refurbished Macs.

I would really appreciate the constructive opinions of others familiar with either of these laptops (or you're simply tech savy) before I make my decision to purchase. Please look over the following details and contribute your constructive feedback to this thread. Thank you very much for your time, efforts, opinions, and sharing your experiences.

    and just to put in my $0.02...I have never known anybody to have good luck with refurbished anything, myself included.

    I have known a couple of people with refurbed apple products, ipods and ipads. No problems.

    My wife bought her mac new its 6-7 years old never any problems. My Mac is a mid 2009 refurbed, runs like the day I bought it (both desktops). Comes with the same warranty, plus you have option to buy an apple care warranty. My understanding is that each refurbed is put under some pretty solid test. I guess a laptop could/would be different because of the potential for them being dropped.

    my advice would be anything other than an apple product.

    i was on their bandwagon for years, but recently had a falling out. i got sick of dealing with them for warranty and service. The prices they charge are insane. I also got sick of paying twice the price for 1/2 the computing power. just compare the hardware specs on a mac product with what you could build a similar windows-based PC for yourself. I recently built a desktop PC for a home server that cost me $1k. Mac doesn't offer a computer with hardware to match... their $3k home desktop is just about 1/2 as capable as the computer i built for $2k list.

    but that's just my two cents.... lots of ppl out there love mac....
    Houston, Texas... Believe it or not, there are 7 million people here... must be a couple of fans who'd love to see you play.

    I won't be hassled to buy another computer for another 5 or so years

    Not everybody wants to build a computer :lol:

    I've had nothing but positive experiences with apple Cust service. My imac was coming off warranty a few months back and the screen had some burn in. I called to schedule a repair and they told me to bring it in but I told them I wanted someone to come out to my home instead because its a pain in the ass lugging that thing around. Two days later they sent someone to replace the screen in my home.

    Apple customer service usually gets very good rankings from consumer reports. I've always had great dealings with Apple Customer Service and their MacBooks and MacBook Air seem to rank fairly high in consumer reports.
