I decided to go the suburb route and went out to Naperville for $47 a night at a Springhill Suite. I figured I'll just drive to the train station and then ride into the loop.

    wow....

no offense, but that is the worst plan ever. naperville????? travel lodge downtown would have been a much better choice. naperville is like an hour's ride on the train. last train leaves at 12:40 don't miss it. that's a 60 cab ride.

It's actually in Warrenville right by the interstate. I thought I could drive and park at the furthest western station for the Blue Line (Oak Park) for $5. How far is it to take the blue into the loop and then the red up to Wrigleyville? Isn't the blue and red both 24hr?

I knew it'd be a little more time and trouble, but it'll save me close to $100 a night.....family on a budget, you know. :D Thanks, though. I appreciate a local's input.

Will you be traveling alone after the show? That stretch of the Blue line is not the safest at night, and when you get off the train stay NORTH of the expressway. This will not be an easy commute for you after this show. You should try to find something closer to the Metra out by Ohare. Seriously, your gonna add some serious time to your evening with this route.....

Would you suggest staying in Rosemount/O'Hare versus out west? I was just trying to stay somewhere around the blue routes.

    i would.

if you don't mind cheap...i'd do the travel lodge in the loop...somebody posted the scored it for 57ish. plus fee's etc. only issue then is parking, and if one night...pfft...big whoop.

Totally understand budgets, but with lots of time left I would suggest those thinking western suburbs and O'Hare to reconsider. If you walk out of the stadium after the show it will probably take 45 min to an hour to get downtown, a good chunk of that waiting for trains as the Addison stop will be overloaded. Once you're downtown, a 10 minute walk to the Blue line, and 5-15 minutes to wait for the train. Once on the Blue its another 45 minutes to O'Hare. Absolute minimum 2 hours, and probably not a very fun 2 hours.

Most of all, you're visiting an amazing city, and while our suburbs (I'm sure) are fine and dandy like sour candy, there's so much to see in Chicago in the summer.

Or come stay with me, I close on a 3 BR 3 BA condo in Lincoln Square on May 31.

Once you're downtown, a 10 minute walk to the Blue line.

more like 2 minute thru the jackson street tunnel

but yeah...it's a good 1:30 from ohare to wrigley via the L.

I've been playing with the name your own price for downtown/the loop through Priceline the last couple of days. I finally had a bid go through for $140 a night for a 4 star hotel or higher and ended up with the Palmer house Hilton. Seems like a pretty good deal so that's where I'll be.

I got a helluva deal through airbnb. Staying in a very nice place on W. Cornelia, a stones throw from Wrigley.
$110 TOTAL for 3 days. It's a private room/private bath on its own floor - including breakfast. They also supply all of the bath essentials (soap, shampoo, etc.) so no need to pack that crap in little bottles for the flight.
This type of accommodation isn't for everyone, I am staying in someone's home. But I'm an adventurer, so I figure what the hell?

What about the McCormick Place - South Loop - Soldier Field area?

Isn't this by the museums by the stadium?

Is this on the redline CTA train route?

I have not. But yesterday, I did get The Palmer House Hilton for Saturday night at $172 (they say a 4 star). I already had booked a place when the show was announced and wasn't sure if I was staying the extra day.

Probably could have used "name my price" for a few days to try, but that price is pretty good for a weekend downtown.

I don't know, it wasnt an issue for me because we plan on flying and using CTA. And since we are planning on flying to O'Hare it seemed like a logical choice. We stayed there for PJ '09 United Center and it worked out really well. Hotel has a very beautiful view of downtown Chicago too.

What's the parking situation? Sometimes they rip you for a parking charge as much as the friggin' room!

Just scored Palmer House Hilton on Hotwire for $105 a night. It is a hidden hotel until you pay but it is a 4 star right by a Red Line train stop!

    Nice! All weekend?

Yeah, Thursday night to Sunday morning! :D

    Nice pull.

Has anyone used name your own price on Priceline recently?

$140 per night in the downtown Loop/Park area gave me:

    Palmer House Hilton

    3 nights + taxes = $515 USD

*edit - the guy above me got it $35 cheaper??! nice score.

I'm still procrastinating :fp: . I plan on arriving Thursday & leaving Sunday but my ticket buddy for the PJ show is getting there Friday & leaving Saturday. Not looking forward to to paying for the room solo for 2 nights  but I can't resist staying over Saturday & going to one of the Phish shows 8-) . Not sure if I should wait it out & name my price for a room the last minute :shifty: .
So, What you Giving ?........ (Thanks Speedy, Alesek, & Arq+friends)

Just got Palmer House for $120/night on Priceline. Tried $100/night earlier today and didn't work. May go for $110/night if you try it. Great deal, that is for sure. We won't be as lucky to get Hyatt Regency for the $60/night like we did back in 2009.
