Exactly. If people are hating on Backspacer, why the hell do I need to fork over $900+ for a white one?

Damn haters and their hate for crappy-ass shit-spacer.

So tough to choose, they are all great in different ways, and the best from my perspective has changed quite a few times. Just today, I spun my newly acquired No Code vinyl and as of this moment, that's the "best" for me. But there is little doubt that in a week or so, I will feel the same about another one!

A friend and I will occasionally play the "rank the PJ album game" and without fail, the exercise ends in frustration with us saying to each other "ah whatever, they're all awesome".

It is almost impossible to choose between the first 5 albums...All equally amazing.
Binaural is a notch under, but not by much and I love the unreleased songs from that era (Education, Fatal, Sad)
Riot Act and Pearl Jam weren't nearly as good, but Backspacer was an improvement, so the arc is going upwards again!

Exactly how I feel. Each morning I wake up with this soulful voice singing a different lyric in my head. And the favourites rotate every week or so, never ever gets old. I have to say, there is no 'worst' album. This is because this band is not one that has ever put out an album just for the sake of putting it out. Each one has something important to say; a powerful feeling that represents the space the band was in when they created it. It is this authenticity that I crave each and every day ...

Well said. I agree with what you have to say. I dont think there is a "best" album either, the band have put out too many good albums for one to stand above the rest.

I just think people feel it has a "sell out" Feeling to it. I disagree. I think its where they are now in life.

They no longer are hoped up with testosterone and want to fight the wrongs and defend the weak in the world.

They are happy now. They have families. You can just hear how content they are with the lyrics. It all just hit me today while listening to Amongst The Waves. The lyrics

    Riding high amongst the waves
    I can feel like I
Have a soul that has been saved
    I can feel like I
    Put away my early grave

Cut to later, now you're strong
You've bled yourself, the wounds are gone
Its rare then where is nothing wrong
Survived & youre amongst the fittest
Love ain't love until you give it up

Just seems like They are done with all the crap that being young and starting up has to bring and are content with going where they wanna go when they wanna go.

Back Spacer is a good album just I think people think its not the old sad stories Pearl Jam used to tell.I love the album but its not my fav.
Some words when spoken...Can't be taken back...

I've always loved Yield. When I took a big road trip out west with my friends, I decided to put it on because of, well, you know, the album cover, the album art, etc. It's a very western, open-space vibe. And really, I've really always loved Yield, but when I listened to it driving through the interstates of New Mexico...holy shit. It totally changed. Now I fucking LOVE Yield. It's such a "space" album...really opens up and reaches for something. Excellent driving album, and I love driving, so I stand by Yield most of the time.

But...I also live in Minnesota a lot...and the winters there are very dark, very white, very gloomy. And so I turn to Binaural A LOT too. Binaural is a really shitty driving album, but a perfect album for moodiness and melancholy. So I'm a huge fan of Binaural too.

Ten is of course a huge standby, and whenever I need a moment of catharsis and energy, Ten is there. Overplayed so much when I got into the band.

I love No Code too, but it hasn't hit me quite in the same way as those 3 have...And Vitalogy...man, I want to love it as much as some of you do, but I can't seem to do it. Every time they work into something great, they kill the vibe with a really weird song that throws it all off. I know that's intentional, but I can't get past it. No Code, Binaural, Yield and Ten don't do that for me.

Riot Act has its moments. I don't hate it--I think it's extremely underrated and has its moments. Ghost is amazing.

Backspacer...well, reach for this one the least.

I think everyone's (for the most part) first love is Ten, that's what brought you in. As someone else said before, all the albums have their own uniqueness to them, and fit different situations. I like them all for different reasons, and I have memories attached to each album as I had different life experiences when each one came out.

I honestly don't listen to Ten that much anymore, since I have heard it so many times. Vs is an amazing album and I think that is was the most highly anticipated PJ album for me, since it came on the heels of Ten. Vitalogy is another great one and highly anticipated (after the Cobain deal). I didn't get into No Code when it first came out, but revisiting it years later, I fell in love with it and it is a regular listen. Yield is phenomenal, and I agree that it has a very open, "driving" feel to it. In my opinion, Binaural is my least favorite album (I may get chastised for this). It has some good tracks, but overall not my favorite. Riot Act was an improvement for me over Binaural. Lately, I have been listening to Avocado a lot! It has some great tracks on it, and I like the feel of the album. It also seems that there is some Backspacer hate on here, I can see why people don't like it, but I overall enjoyed the album. I think there are more songs on the album that I like, more than I dislike.

Sorry to give you my PJ album analysis, just chiming in. Everyone is a critic, but remember one thing, we are all here because we love Pearl Jam, and whatever album is your favorite, enjoy!
40+ shows, it is never enough!

Not HATE...just no LOVE, for me is more like it.....

The band has a lot to prove, should get a double album together if they are going to wait many more years since 2008/2009 writing and delivery period...many have written them off YEARS ago...the hard core and true like us stay 4 ever
