So I just finished reading 'Come As You Are'....

Been a fan for a long time yet never read a Nirvana book.
Amazing read, well written.

It shocked and disturbed me that Kurt had such a violent psycho streak, the killing the reporter's dog threat upset me.

Great insight into the recording of their albums and some literature behind the songs.

Also freaky that some aspects of Kurt's life were similar to mine :shock:

    When was this released? I think this was the official one. Is this the Michael Azzerad book? I haven't read that in yeeeeeeears. Must get a new copy of that re-read it. I seem to remember some parts of it really fucking annoying me, for some reason.

    I bought that when it was first released, read it, and gave it away. Been a long time. I think there were some puerile bits about making prank calls to PJ members and various other folk. I've a vague memory of that.

    Tell you an interesting story about a powerful connection between Eddie and Kurt. I think we all know now there wasn't much of a rivalry... we saw them dance under the stage on the PJ 20.

    Anyhow, there was a period between when Kurt went missing and when he was found dead. During that time, I have a bootleg from Pearl Jam, it was called 'Burning', I think. The city was Atlanta. Anyhow, the band does 'Go'. as a brief intro, Ed says "this one's for Kurt"... and of course the chorus is 'don't go on me'.

    At this point, everyone knew Kurt was missing. They had just pulled Lolla from Nirvana the day before and gave it to the Pumpkins. But, it was cool and powerful to see Ed was thinking about Kurt while he was missing... and Kurt's body was found the next day, I believe.

    I was lucky enough to see them all together. Back in 90 or 91, I saw Chili Peppers (touring on Blood Sugar Sex Magic), Nirvana (touring on Nevermind) and Pearl Jam (touring on Ten). So, yeah, concert of a lifetime. Basically, a woodstock of contemporary music. When I went to that show, I had never even heard of PJ before... but that is a great story for another time.

    In closing (I got a litle rambly... again) I was just writing about Kurt today. Someone asked me about the Eddie shows that were postponed. I said "Imagine if you had the opportunity to see Kurt Cobain sit with an acoustic guitar all by himself and plays his hits and tell us stories" I mean, this would be tenfold the intimacy of their landmark 'unplugged' show. That is the opportunity we are getting with these Ed shows. I am going to the New Mex show, still super excited, even though we are pushed back to Nov.

    I regret not seeing them too, I never took much notice of them back in the 90s but I appreciate them more now!

    same thing for me. they were what got me into rock music, but I was only 8 in 1994, so no chance for me to catch a show.

    as for come as you are, I think it's a pretty good book. I especially liked that most of it was written while kurt was still alive, so you don't get that usual "looking back" perspective.

    if you havent already seen About a Son, the documentary made up of Azzerad's conversations with Kurt i recommend you see it. Its the audio of the interviews, and no pictures of kurt or any of nirvana until the end. One of the most evocative and powerful documentaries ive ever seen. The images and video shown throughout are everyday images of childhood, of children growing up, landscapes, the city.

    I still have my concert ticket for Nirvana which was supposed to be played in Dublin on 8th April 1994.

    I was so close to seeing them! He was found on the 8th right?
