I really like Jeff's bass running bass lines in Do The Evolution too. He's kind of reserved on the studio albums, though. Live versions, I mean.

Of course, Save You is Jeff Ament on fire! Watching him play that four string and the way he bends those strings...wow!

Rearviewmirror, another one...okay, I'll stop there for now.

  • Jeff is king - I believe he is the strongest contributor to PJ's sound.
Great bass songs - Glorified G, Hail Hail, Army Reserve and Not For You (N4Y - because of the way that the guitars are playing the same riff in the chorus as the verse but the way Jeff changes the bassline underneath creates a whole different dynamic - simple but clever!)

Have to come up for air every once in awhile :D & yes, Dirty Frank is amazing, they should play it much more often live. Sad should have a mention, while the finger pickin is fab, I think the bass line brings it totally together. Not to mention Alone, Education & Brother. Maybe I'm partial to bass because that's what my brother plays. He learned to play cranking out Zeppelin tunes in the late 70's. Our house would be thumpin', good times!
Maybe we should do a best "Song Game" just for Jeff bass lines 8-)

There's plenty of great songs with excellent bass lines. The two songs that spring to mind for me are Present Tense and Rats. And the band would never be the same without Jeff, one of the two people who started it all - definitely not!
