Ok, i will admit this song touches me on multiple levels. the slow opening, build up, lyrics, guitar outro, make this a special song for me. now, i do not listen to tons of shows but i do have vegas, gorge, SB, and diego for avocado tour.

does anyone know of an extended inside job version (full on jamming-soloing by mike)?

I want!

Bump. I also need a long version of Inside Job. I have 7 versions but they are all about the same length at 6:10-6:45 (not counting applause and chatting by Eddie).

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

I always thought the buildup didnt match the rest of the song in terms of length. Either the buildup is too long, or have the outro much longer.

Eddie seems to disagree with your opinion (see comments he made after the ACL version, Grand Rapids 19/05/06, and many other times he sings this song).

St Louis - 5/4/10. Amazing version. Not much longer than what you have but worth a listen. This song also touches me on so many levels.

I am not completely sold on this song yet. But that has happened before for me. Took a while for me to "get" Rival, All Those Yesterdays and Red Mosquito, so I could still come around. But my comment is longer jams are needed throughout the catalog!!!

clearly he's not going to bash his bandmates song, especially when he's on stage. whether ed appreciates it or not doesn't change the fact that there's a line in the song that goes "let me run into the rain to be a human light again".... amongst a few others.

"How I choose to feel is how I am" more than makes up for it, IMO. Absolutely love this song, and was overcome by emotion when I heard the first few notes of it in Newark last year...

I am replying once again to your comment and please do not take this as the start of a quarrel.

Mike use the word "rain" as a symbol of the universal human struggle most of us face. This word has been used many times by other songwriters such as Peter Gabriel (Red Rain) and John Mellencamp (Rain on the Scarecrow), for the same symbolism.

Mike then uses the words "to be a human light again" as to say that from that moment on he actively chooses (possibly after some personal struggle of his own) to be a positive light in this world and will do so by fully running toward this goal. I believe that contrasting the words rain and light in the same sentence was done for this purpose.

"How I choose to be is how I am" reinforces the fact that people have the choice to be positive lights in this word.

Would you agree with some of this analysis?

    Cheers!

P.S. Here is a comment by Mike about this song - McCready about "Inside Job": I'd been thinking about some stuff for a year or two and searching for kind of a spiritual answer to whatever maladies were in my life. I realized that I had to go inside myself first before I could be open to outside ideas. And that's kind of what the premise was (from http://www.ovguide.com/inside-job-9202a ... 00057b8e23)

Write a song Fox. Something personal, then let someone criticise it.

I really don't understand why someone would have an issue with the lyrics to this song. The message is such a good one. It's about making a positive decision about how to feel about something rather than being passive or accepting the common way of responding.

It's a great idea for a song! :geek:

    Great song! I suffered some
anxiety related issues for about a year and while not fully cured I can go about my daily life about as normal as possible with the help of some PJ songs including Inside Job- the lyrics for me are very poignant. Other songs to help me get through my illness included I am Mine, Cant Keep, Just Breathe, Unthought Known, In Hiding to name a few. I actually
put together an album of songs that became my soundtrack. :)
