  • for the first time in many years the grammys actually have some great performers. mum and sons, muse, aracde fire, bob dylan, and black keys. i can't remember a time there were more than 5 acts i was looking forward to at a grammys show.

btw i was glad pj didn't go too lol

I don't like Muse but whatever, they won.

What amazes me is that, not only did Pearl Jam not win, they snubbed Neil Young and Tom Petty. They should have added Bob Dylan to the group of nominees just to make it even more absurd.

This whole thing is absurd! Why is John Mayer in a category with Bieber, Gaga, and Katy Perry?!? How does he feel?!

The Muse are in a category with all those greats?!? It's all just stupid.

Hate to tread on a legend, but, the only thing good about Bob Dylan on stage tonight was everything on stage that wasn't Bob Dylan ... that was rough. Thank goodness for The Avett Bros & Mumford and Sons being up there at the same time.

Ok, the biggest slight fo the night .... the In Memorium section.

They put the pic of the lead singer of The Knack up at the same time as a pic of Ronnie James Dio .... and they play My Sharona.

    Dio deserved better.

    I'm not happy.

now that the band is a lil older and lil more wiser

i wonder if ed's opinion has changed about winning a grammy which he states meant nothing to him.

If Eddie hadn't of knocked down the Grammy the band won in '93 and stop up there and truly appreciated it, you all would be singing a different song.

Actually, it was the '96 Grammys, for "Spin the Black Circle". :)

Arcade Fire seemed pretty gracious in accepting their award. Amazing band from an incredible city. Just gotta fight that fear that they're getting too popular :) .

No one televised the crapfest here in Norway - I had planned to watch said crapfest this year, if only to see how Le Noise was gonna fair and watch Mumford & Sons... I was sure PJ wouldn't turn up anyway. Bit shit Uncle Neil did not win for an outstanding album (have not listened to the Muse one, so no comments on that), but I doubt he was crying into his cornflakes this morning
I would take Black Holes and Revelations over anything after Yield. And their live shows are exceptional and affordable.

Really? So u didn't like Binaural and Riot Act? :o (I'm not gonna embarrass myself and mention ST & Bs ;) ) ....edit: actually, I change my mind, I do like many songs off ST & Bs 8-)
And way to go slipping in a jab on pricing and price hikes right at the end there :P

'96 it was....And if u think that's why many around here have little or no respect for the Grammys, then I suggest u sit urself down and really pay attn whilst you watch all the Grammys from the past twenty-odd years. 8-)

This guy is right - while several of us may dislike what the Grammy's are currently, and always have been about, bands have to buy into this bull shit nowadays more than ever. They aren't selling 12 million copies of a disc any more; to make a decent living buying in is a prerequisite.

I doubt most of the attendees are "buying into this bullshit" - jesus christ what is the big deal about going to an award show and enjoying being appreciated? Can't people have fun anymore without being so elitist? If Eddie hadn't of knocked down the Grammy the band won in '93 and stop up there and truly appreciated it, you all would be singing a different song.

It's ok, I'm sure you all like a pop song out there. Just admit it. I love Pearl Jam but also enjoy pop music (Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Usher, Eminem, *GASP* even BIEBER!). Enough with the elitist "I can only like rock bands with meaningful lyrics that don't have catchy songs." Sure, "F*** You" by Cee Lo doesn't have poetic lyrics, but you gotta admit its a great song. Or not. Tell me how Pearl Jam and a slew of underground bands are the only good thing left in music, and the rest is garbage. Liking anything popular is sacrilegious.

Also, Muse totally deserved their Grammy over Backspacer. Hands down. I agree with the previous poster that said anyone who doesn't think Muse has good music has Pearl Jam blinders on.

Drop the Elitism and you will feel sooo freee!! :)

For me, its all about rock. I could not name ONE song that are performed by any of the pop artists you mention in your post...and I don't care to. I don't feel I am an eletist either. My tastes are varied and I listen to a lot of music besides PJ. For me, the best performer last night were the Avett Brothers. I enjoy them much more than Muse. I've seen both perform live and Muse did nothing for me. The Avett Brothers are fun and not choreographed. But to each their own...

I didn't hear even a shout out, scream or anything when Backspacer was announced.
That made me kind of sad cause they deserved that and much more.

    Wow Mumford and Sons... 8-)
Dylan's mic should have been up a bit but the enthusiasm of the young men and their playing was so cool

I thought Muse was great....although I think their latest album blows compared to Black Holes

I thought Dylan was fucking pathetic

I thought Usher looked like a fucking retard and I can't believe people gave that idiot a standing ovation for being about 1/10th the talent of Michael Jackson.

Lady Gaga put out a great message but the dance productions are just ridiculous

That is all I have to say about that

Last night I once again realized the Grammy's aren't for me (if they ever were)...they are for my daughter's age group(7 & 9)and other young kids. Every time Justin B was flashed on TV my girls screamed. They loved the musical style performances with dancers and costumes etc. It might explain why Glee is such a popular show...

Nice to see Neil Young finally won a Grammy after all these years.

I am a huge music lover and I thought there were multiple great performances. Bruno Mars/Jackie Wilson performance was amazing, Muse was solid and Cee-Lo's performance was pure entertainment minus Gwyneth paltrow lackluster singing. To say that show is full of fake acceptance speeches is a bit much. What would you say? Then saying "All" the music is overproduced is a broad stroke. Also, what does overproduced really mean? I hear this get thrown around a lot but with not much explanation.

  • So let me get this straight....the grammys are bullshit but it's cool for the band's employees to direct you to other meaningless websites to vote for PJ in online polls as many times as you can? Those are worth your time but award shows aren't?

And some of you act like you wouldn't be celebrating if they won the grammy.
  • 4 pages and no mention of Mick Jagger?! I thought his performance and band were the best. There were only about 4 or 5 actual "musical" performances of the night. A lot of strobe flashing lights and distraction.

The mainstream shit is total mind control.

I don't know I usually can't watch the Grammys and there were still plenty of reasons to be critical (Teddy Pendergrass recognition, Dylan's singing, P-Diddy and his grillz and lack of ability to speak English, J-Lo and Marc A almost getting in a fight). However, I think they got quite a few things right. I did not watch all of it but I thought Mumford and Sons were fantastic, Avett Brothers were very good, I liked the Rihanna, Eminem, Dr. Dre sequence even though I am not huge fans of any of them. I like that they focused on performances and for some that is good and for some you get the real story of whether they have talent. I also appreciated Arcade Fire's enthusisam and desire to keep playing. Not a fan of them but thought that was cool. For TV you need it not to be boring and I think they did a pretty good job as far as the Grammys go.

there was an article in the paper here in western australia yesterday that even the critics noted the grammy's are a load of crap....they are supposed to be given out for some of the greatest artist achievements....then why the hell did hendrix never win one, the doors, Lynyrd Skynyrd...all these posts about freebird and not one grammy..Queen, the dead, zeppelin, diana ross, the who??? quadraphenia is an amazing album.... hell neil young just got his first one didnt he? grammys are crap....just an excuse for gaga to wear another silly outfit.

I would guess that EV and the band do not like any sort of system where art "competes" against art for recognition. It is what it is. I fell asleep during the Muse performance.

    1. I couldn't care less what Eddie Vedder said about a Grammy in 93. I still wouldn't have watched a second of it.
    2. Just because someone doesn't think Muse has good music doesn't mean they have PJ "blinders" on. I don't like Muse at all but I love hundreds of artists other than Pearl Jam.
    3. I like being an elitist. Pop music sucks IMO. I really, truly don't like a single song I've heard by any of the artists you named (yes, even Eminem)
