Thank You Pearl Jam For Not Attending the Grammys
All the music celebrated today is overproduced, overhyped, and over the top. The show is full of fake acceptance awards and "performers" who are designed by their record label. I was proud to see you were not there when the band's name was called. Dylan is the only talented performer I saw there tonight.
But anyway, congrats to Muse for having the best light show of the year. That's what they won, right?

Let me guess, Mumford and Sons suck as well.

Mumford and Sons have a lot of talent but I think their album could be better. I have heard every Muse album and the only one that has stayed in my iTunes collection is their first.
My love of Pearl Jam has not blinded me in terms of loving music. Bands that are out today that I love include (quickly and off the tope of my head): Animal Collective, TV on the Radio, Fleet Foxes, The National, Arcade Fire (who will be on later tonight), LCD Soundsystem, Beach House, The Roots, My Morning Jacket, and Deerhunter.

Totally unnecessary pot shot. Muse are very very talented, have been around for a long while, and have arguably put out better music than Pearl Jam the past decade. I would take Black Holes and Revelations over anything after Yield. And their live shows are exceptional and affordable.
Is anything written on this forum necessary?
I think they are talented musicians who try to hard to make rock that will be popular to the masses, and tonight this was proven. I would take any PJ album over BH and R, including Riot Act.

This guy is right - while several of us may dislike what the Grammy's are currently, and always have been about, bands have to buy into this bull shit nowadays more than ever. They aren't selling 12 million copies of a disc any more; to make a decent living buying in is a prerequisite.
They can't win a Grammy, disparage everything about it, and still be huge. It just isn't the way it is. Pearl Jam can do what they do now, and what they started doing in 94, because of the time they blew up during. We can't forget this.
I get the rest of what you wrote, but plenty of bands make a great living and are never considered for a grammy and never attend the award show, including some of the bands I wrote earlier.

I doubt most of the attendees are "buying into this bullshit" - jesus christ what is the big deal about going to an award show and enjoying being appreciated? Can't people have fun anymore without being so elitist? If Eddie hadn't of knocked down the Grammy the band won in '93 and stop up there and truly appreciated it, you all would be singing a different song.
It's ok, I'm sure you all like a pop song out there. Just admit it. I love Pearl Jam but also enjoy pop music (Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Usher, Eminem, *GASP* even BIEBER!). Enough with the elitist "I can only like rock bands with meaningful lyrics that don't have catchy songs." Sure, "F*** You" by Cee Lo doesn't have poetic lyrics, but you gotta admit its a great song. Or not. Tell me how Pearl Jam and a slew of underground bands are the only good thing left in music, and the rest is garbage. Liking anything popular is sacrilegious.
Also, Muse totally deserved their Grammy over Backspacer. Hands down. I agree with the previous poster that said anyone who doesn't think Muse has good music has Pearl Jam blinders on.
Drop the Elitism and you will feel sooo freee!!
I love this post
If you agree or disagree (or anyone else) with what the grammy stands for nowadays (or anyday for that matter), any artist who attends is a piece of crap who deserves no respect (in the music business, anyway)?
I really don´t understand this way of thinking. It´s not my intention to put words in your mouth, but I figure this is the way you think.
PJ was at the top, and regardless of the decisions they made afterwards (don´t get me wrong, I respect what they did from 93 and after), they still benefited from it. The success still keeps cashing in. It does not matter if they do or do not attend an award show. Besides, Eddie´s gone to another equally distorted award ceremony (about 4 times). Guess wich one I´m talking about. Hint: a unique band like Rush, among many, are not inducted.
Haha why thank you - I thought I'd be getting a lot of criticism but this works out nicely!
You can't just drop how you feel. I am totally fine in feeling that most artists on this award show do not have actual musical talent. I enjoy some early Eminem songs (which were played on the radio A LOT) but I do not like a song by any other artist you mentioned (no, not even Cee Lo).
Neil Young deserved it IMO. Great segue
I love Neil and forgot I saw him. I also didn't see Petty. And finally I do not feel that any artist who attends does not deserve respect, but I hold Pearl Jam to a higher standard than other bands (foolish of me, I know) and was happy to see they did not attend.

What amazes me is that, not only did Pearl Jam not win, they snubbed Neil Young and Tom Petty. They should have added Bob Dylan to the group of nominees just to make it even more absurd.

It is really funny to think that the band is probably spending time with their families during the Grammys and you all are watching the show, then going to PJ.com to post how irrelevant the show is and how great it is that Pearl Jam didn't show up even though you watched the show anyway.
Hahaha I saw about 10 minutes worth because other people had it on in my house.

I love all of these and was glad to see them perform. I am not necessarily a fan of Lady Gaga but she has some talent as far as her voice is concerned.
Never quite got into Muse. Their new stuff sounds like they just wanna be Queen. I have the Absolution album and it's not too bad. Also, it's great to see most of the people "performing" are actually PLAYING INSTRUMENTS or SINGING LIVE... not too many years ago, all these music awards shows were full of nothing but no-talent rappers or little girls lip-syncing to a recording.
Let's face it, if a PJ album was gonna be nominated for a Grammy these days, it should definitely be Backspacer (if you get my drift).
New Mexico Pearl Jam Fans (New Mexico, USA) on Facebook!
Would like if Le Noise won.
I was a Muse fan in the begining, but lost them in the last few years. I tried, but I just don't find any enjoyment. I thought The Resistance was the worst. Time for that Grammy.
Is it me or did they have more rock acts at Grammys this year than usual? That's good.
Do they have ukulele category there? We might need it next year for Eddie.
