Two songs that were in the 'OK' bracket for me went up very far in my estimation in Berlin last month. The End, I thought was better suited to Ed's solo work and I didn't jump for joy when I saw it on nearly all the 09 US setlists alongside Just Breathe, but in Berlin it just stopped me in my tracks. Absolutely gorgeous lyrics/sentiment/music and I love it now. I don't think I've ever scribbled down a fantasy setlist with Push Me Pull Me on it but sitting outside Wuhlheide in the scorching heat with a bottle of wine listening to PJ playing it during the soundcheck will live long in the memory and the version in the main set was immensely better!! I do love Bugs with strings too.. :D
Like a book among the many on a shelf...

    Dublin 02 Arena - 22/6/10. Belfast Odyssey Arena - 23/6/10. London Hyde Park - 25/6/10. Berlin Wuhlheide - 30/6/10.
    Manchester MEN - 20/06/12. Manchester MEN - 21/06/12

This is so great because for me... Undone ranks as one of my least favorites. This is what makes this thread so interesting and Pearl Jam so great. What one loves another hates.
Undone reminds me of driving along the ocean with the top down, the melody, the way Eddie sings it. I find it a very soothing, freeing song.
I think it is a Lost Dogs kind of night 8-)

Undone is my favorite road trip song. Sometimes it is a little too freeing, as I've had to talk my way out of several speeding tickets on that one.

RATS is one of my faves. It always puts me in a mischevious mood.

I hear that... I think I'm just not a fan of its political roots. I remember when it came out... Bush era... post 9/11...I always felt like the lyrics sorta mashed into each other... discussing corporations ruling the day, election day and then surfing terms "building before it breaks" Its definitely a pleasant song with a nice melody... just didn't strike a chord with me in comparison to many others. I do love how Ed makes comparisons to elements of nature...ususally waves, but this one wasn't a home run for me.

...driving along the ocean with the top down ----> for me... the song for this is... Parachutes, Elderly Woman, Rise, or Driftin. Possibly Out of My mind too. Glad you made me think about that.
Out of my Mind was so awesome Philly 4, I was not so familiar with the song, Eddie blew me away with it. I was right under his microphone a memory I will forever cherish.
I get the political thing with Undone but I don't usually sing along with it , if I do the lyrics I think are my own ;)

Present Tense, RVM, and In Hiding. These are rare as faves, right?? Just joking. I know these are popular.

Actually a few of mine that aren't super popular are Rats, Insignificance, Severed Hand, Sad, and Hard to Imagine. Too many favorites, sorry.
  • 1/2 Full...love the Easy Street Records version
  • My favorite is Inside Job. Very well written in my opinion. Light Years and Present Tense follow closely. I like Mike's stuff :D
Do you see the way that tree bends? Does it inspire?

I'll not lose my faith, it's an inside job today

In no particular order my favorite top 5, that would be considered not "popular" would be.

    Red Mosquito
    All or None
    Sleight of Hand
    Insignificance
    I'm Open

I have heard alot of people say that they hate I'm Open. I absolutely love it. I think the live version of it isn't quite as good as the studio, but I still welcome it live.

I agree, I think the album version just transcends this dimension, but I like the live version. I'd love to hear Eddie repeat the beginning and ending stanzas of the song live, but I doubt he would be able to remember it word for word.

    I'm Open (very underrated)
Who You Are (doesn't get the respect it deserves)
    Marker in the Sand
    Glorified G
Hard to Imagine (Is this considered an unusual song?)
    Parachutes
2,000 Mile Blues (I would love to see them bust this out at their 20th anniversary show and see Mike just shred the guitar for 5 or so minutes).
Speed of Sound (People give this song alot of shit, but I think if they heard the stripped down acoustic version they would have a different opinion).

After listening to all the albums in order a few times on the flight to europe and back from europe to australia, nothingman, who you are, push me pull me, gods' dice, sleight of hand, cropduster, ghost, gone and army reserve have all been replayed numerous times. I think after you start to delve deeper into the catalogues of many bands songs that didnt hit you at first start to grow....probably also depends on the mood your in as well.

One of my favorite song is... BUGS!

There is something in that song, i don't know what...

My eleven-year-old loves "Bugs," too. He was so psyched to hear it in Philly. :D It's a mystery to me, but he loves it.

I would love to see it outdoor, I am crossing my fingers for their next Gorge shows. I know they did it before, but they've only played the song seven times since 2006.
