Haha... nope. But an acquaintance who worked for Marilyn Manson told me not to cover up the dressing room mirrors at Nassau Coliseum (which I wasn't planning on doing anyway) because they will smash them if they were covered.

...and one woman who worked catering said that she recalls during The Who / Quadrophenia tour in 1996 Gary Glitter running thru the halls like a madman, I think with a microphone stand if I remember right.

No karate though. Was a pretty calm but busy environment. :D

if nothing else, watch this movie for an amazing performance from Philip Seymour Hoffman

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kss5QLQlM9w

Lester Bangs: So, you're the one who's been sending me those articles from your school newspaper.
William Miller: I've been doing some stuff for a local underground paper, too.
Lester Bangs: What, are you like the star of your school?
    William Miller: They hate me.
Lester Bangs: You'll meet them all again on their long journey to the middle.

Lester Bangs: You CANNOT make friends with the rock stars. That's what's important. If you're a rock journalist - first, you will never get paid much. But you will get free records from the record company. And they'll buy you drinks, you'll meet girls, they'll try to fly you places for free, offer you drugs... I know. It sounds great. But they are not your friends. These are people who want you to write sanctimonious stories about the genius of the rock stars, and they will ruin rock and roll and strangle everything we love about it.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzY2pWrXB_0

Lester Bangs: Aw, man. You made friends with them. See, friendship is the booze they feed you. They want you to get drunk on feeling like you belong.
William Miller: Well, it was fun.
Lester Bangs: They make you feel cool. And hey. I met you. You are not cool.
    William Miller: I know. Even when I thought I was, I knew I wasn't.
Lester Bangs: That's because we're uncool. And while women will always be a problem for us, most of the great art in the world is about that very same problem. Good-looking people don't have any spine. Their art never lasts. They get the girls, but we're smarter.
William Miller: I can really see that now.
Lester Bangs: Yeah, great art is about conflict and pain and guilt and longing and love disguised as sex, and sex disguised as love... and let's face it, you got a big head start.
William Miller: I'm glad you were home.
Lester Bangs: I'm always home. I'm uncool.
    William Miller: Me too!
Lester Bangs: The only true currency in this bankrupt world is what we share with someone else when we're uncool.
    William Miller: I feel better.
Lester Bangs: My advice to you. I know you think those guys are your friends. You wanna be a true friend to them? Be honest, and unmerciful.

One of my favorite Cameron Crowe movies of all time!! And, our very own Mike McCready can be heard playing guitar in the movie.
  • this movie perfectly captures the love of music, how important music is in our lives, and the comfort it provides.

    cameron crowe is a genius.

that bus scene with Tiny Dancer is a classic. Perfect scene. The scene where Zooey Dechanel says simon and garfunkel's America is why she is leaving home to be a stewardess How she whispers to William, "look under your bed it will set you free", in reference to all those albums. The scene where William actually looks under the bed and pulls out those records for the first time, wow, that makes me teary eyed just thinking about it. So much hope and possibility in his eyes at that moment. William running after penny lane, as Elton's Mona Lisas and mad hatters plays in the background. The end scene where William asks Russell, "so what do you love about music"? And he answers "to begin with...everything".

This movie is a love letter to music, and it perfectly encapsulates why i have the username I do, why I moved into an apartment feet from a music venue, why I spend hours each day engulfed in music, how it feels to have albums that you feel were written for you, or about you. To feel like music is freedom. That music is a way for you to define yourself, to change yourself, to alter your life. Where anything is possible.
