If you can take a few minutes out of your day tomorrow, please go and represent the Pearl Jam fanbase. "Say it now, better loud, then too late!"

Welcome Back From Afghanistan - McHenry, Illinois - 12/19/2009
Who:
Captain Jason Schwab

When:
Dec. 19, 2009, Saturday

Time:
ETA 6:30 PM (CST)

Where:
Veterans Memorial Park Gazebo
1450 N. Court Street
McHenry, IL 60050

Please come out to welcome home Cpt. Jason Schwab from a one year deployment in Afghanistan. Jason is 26 years old. He has been in the US Army since 2001. He is an OH58D Kiowa Warrior Helicopter pilot. He has been stationed at Ft. Campbell, KY, 101st Airborne Division which is where he is returning to. He will stay at Ft. Campbell for about a week before he is released to come home.

Jason graduated from McHenry East High School, McHenry, ILL. He graduated West Point Academy, West Point, NY in 2005.

This deployment was especially difficult for Jason’s mother, Karen Schwab. Her husband was also a helicopter pilot. In 1984 he was shot down by terrorists in Honduras and was killed. Click here to read the story. Jason was only 8 months old at the time.

Karen has endured the terror of waiting for her son to arrive home and that time is here…just before the holidays. She could not receive a better gift. She has reached out to the Warriors Watch Riders and the Yellow Ribbon Club for a big homecoming for her son. So we are on it!!!!!!!

The Warriors Watch Riders will greet Jason at O’Hare Airport when he lands and then escort him directly to the Veterans Memorial Park Gazebo for a Welcome Home Party. The local fire department will be on board to provide extra noise as the escort pulls up with our hero. Please come out and welcome home this brave young man. Join his mother in the joy of getting her son back. This will be a great day to show your patriotism.

*MEDIA WELCOME AT FAMILY'S REQUEST

As someone who grew up near McHenry, it is always amazing to hear how the locals support the troops coming home. The motorcycle parade is amazing. Its a shame not everyone supports the troops coming home like this.

We are working on it! We have done over 110 so far (and at least 5 planned in the next week) in the South Jersey area and even organized one outside of Seattle not too long ago. The Illinois request could not be denied after we heard the story from the mother. Also, as a certain member on this board tells me, a son of his and a huge PJ fan may hopefully will be coming home soon so maybe we might even organize one in Florida soon too (ROAD TRIP in the winter!? hell yeah!!)

Do we know if Jason is a Pearl Jam fan? If so, it would be sweet if we could pull together a nice PJ "welcome home" gift for him. Maybe some boots, a shirt, etc.

    What do you guys think?

Edit: Ok, i spoke to his mother. she doesnt know exactly what he listens to anymore but since he's 26, she said go for it and worst case scenario, she will explain to him that PJ fans wanted him to have whatever you give him because of the band's support for US Troops and the relationship the band has with its fans. Thanks so much if you go and further, thanks if you can make him a cd or 2!!

If you go, please reply tomorrow how it went and provide pics if you can take em. thanks!

    Yes, I agree.

A child's rhyme stuck in my head...
It said "Life is nothing but a dream."
I've spent so many years in question
To find I'd known this all along.

My intention is not to stir up emotions of anger and violence, but I'd like to read some of your thoughts as to how supporting troops is not supporting the wars and invasions they are a part of?

(In a gentle, but not patronizing voice)

Troops put their lives on the line for us all. They don't make the decision to go to war, they don't determine tactics, they do what they are told and trust those above make the right decisions. This applies to troops from all sides of any conflict. This sacrafice is the ultimate in love for fellow man and they should be appreciaed for this. By supporting homecoming troops you are not supporting a war, a political point of view or a conflict, you are supporting individuals who are putting their lives on the line for our safety and wellbeing. Politics can be left for others and another place.

    Welcome home son.
