how do you "flip the bird"?

I've been trying to understand why some people give the middle finger with the thumb, like this http://bp0.blogger.com/_3RAIwM8eH2Q/SBG ... eature.jpg I asked this one guy at work what's with the thumb, and he was like "I don't know!, I just do it that way cuz everyone else does it"

Maybe it's pure laziness or they do not have enough flexibility in their thumb to put it all the way down....

Like everything else, you have to practise to get it right!

i think the thumb adds a little more gangsta attitude to it... like firing a gun while holding it sideways... me personally, i go with the no thumb technique... unless i make the conscious effort to include the thumb
