Free anti virus software

I was thinking about trying a free anti virus software that got some good reviews from download.com. Either AVG anti virus free edition or Avast home edition. Is it safe to use free software like this, and does it work as well as the ones you pay for?

I use AVG on my home PC, no complaints, I do not use any anti virus on my mac.

  • AVG is actually better than some of those smaller named programs. my parents have avast but i never used so i cant comment really. but avg is great and its free. it beats norton by mile. if norton became free id still use avg.
  • I use AVG at home and Avast at work. I had Avast at home, but tried AVG when someone recommended it to me, and when I ran it the first time, it picked up a few things potential threats that Avast never did.

For free anti-virus you will not beat Antivir

For Free firewall, you will not beat Comodo personal firewall

Nod32 is far and away the BEST antivirus. Very easy on system resources.
