She not from the UK! She's from Dublin! - I think. (Not part of the UK). NORTHERN IRELAND is part of the U.K. :)

so what you're saying is that Dublin is not in the UK, not necessarily Ireland, or parts of it anyway
  • redrockredrock Posts: 18,341
It comprises the island of Great Britain, the north-east part of the island of Ireland and many small islands. Northern Ireland is the only part of the UK with a land border, sharing it with the Republic of Ireland.[10][11][12]

sounds to me like the rest of the world thinks you're part of the UK

Northern Ireland (the north-east part of the Island of Ireland) and the Republic of Ireland are different countries.

Going back to good ol' wiki:
Ireland (Irish: Éire; Ulster Scots: Airlann) is the third largest island in Europe,[1] and the twentieth largest island in the world.[2] It lies to the northwest of Continental Europe and is surrounded by hundreds of islands and islets. To the east of Ireland, separated by the Irish Sea, is the island of Great Britain. Politically, the Republic of Ireland (also known simply as Ireland) covers five sixths of the island, with Northern Ireland, part of the United Kingdom, covering the remainder in the northeast.

Dublin is NOT in the UK. Dublin is in the Republic of Ireland which is NOT part of the UK. Check out a map - you might understand. They share a border, a bit like Canada and the US share a border - or lots of other countries sharing borders.

Only Northern Ireland is considered part of the U.K. but the rest of Ireland isn't.

Helen will tell you tomorrow. :)

well explain this then, from Wikipedia??

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (commonly known as the United Kingdom, the U.K., or Britain)[7] is a country[8][9] to the north-west of mainland Europe. It comprises the island of Great Britain, the north-east part of the island of Ireland and many small islands. Northern Ireland is the only part of the UK with a land border, sharing it with the Republic of Ireland.[10][11][12] Apart from this land border, the UK is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the North Sea, the English Channel and the Irish Sea. The largest island, Great Britain, is linked to France by the Channel Tunnel.

sounds to me like the rest of the world thinks you're part of the UK

No, the rest of the world does not; you didn't read that it says "Northern Ireland." Not the Republic of Ireland (where Dublin is located) ;) Different country.

are you talking about me? I wasn't trying to be clever, I was asking a legitimate question. I'm sorry but I not completely familiar with the geography in that part of the world, doesn't mean I'm not "clever" as you say.

all my tenclub stuff comes via sweden.

i reckon the airmail flight is from New York to Sweden and then its broken up there and shipped out to respective countries from there.

  • thank you redrock, you've done a fine job in my absence :)

pureandeasy I'm genuinely not annoyed that people don't know this... I used to be cos I used to wonder 'what do you think all the fighting was about?'

Now, rather than get annoyed or offended, I educate... you certainly won't make that mistake again? I hope?

But no, the republic of Ireland fought for hundreds of years to kick the brits out... we succeeded... hence being a republic. We are our own country... with our own government, our own laws, our own taxes... sure we lost our language along the way but I live in hope that that will change. Ireland is its own country! It cannot be simpler. Just as France is its own country, or that Germany is its own country or that Italy is its own country... we are not even part of the commonwealth. the people who reside here are not British, we are Irish! :)

It's because rather than ship using FedEx, USPS or DHL they use Swedish Post to ship all their international orders. I think everything goes to Sweden and then is split up. Also means less chance of us having to pay customs charges ;)
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?

    *who, what, where?*

Nah was just expanding that it's the postal service they use. I've ordered other stuff from the States that have given me the option of Swedish Post or USPS ... one cheaper, the other quicker.

I dunno if it has been mentioned already, or if it makes a difference but my dvd package had a Scandanavian return address on it oddly enough!

Edit... ok really lazy and didn't read any of this... clearly it has been discussed already...

I had a thread about it before... I think there are 10 times more people who think Ireland's in the UK than those who know the truth :(

    We should do a poll...

    what's this 'we' business? :p

How would ya word it anyway? And a lot of people would probably take the piss anyway.

Seriously, I still genuinely can't get my head around how many people believe Ireland is part of the UK  . It's just completely incomprehensible to me.

In fairness, I could tell ye fuck all about any wars that happened in other countries... we know it cos it was beat into us at an early age. But I could tell ye nothing about how other countries gained their independance from the British Empire. Even the whole royal thingy in Australia - haven't a fuckin clue :D

Also, the Republic of Ireland is still in the British Isles... how did we miss that one?!

we didnt.. i bring that one up at every opportunity :p

i reckon 63% of americans dont even know what an atlas is never mind find Ireland on it.

that stat was brought to you by dunkstats.com, for all your wildly flamboyant stat needs... 13% of customers went away happy... the other 96% died horribly in a freak toboggan accident

It's not the feckin british isles.. that implies they own this island and they feckin do not. Dermot Ahern has mentioned a couple of times about changing that from officialdom to absolute bolloxdom :) I like Dermot Ahern.

And no, I couldn't tell ya how most countries GOT their independence... but I usually know if they have it or not :o . It was YEARS ago when I learned that New Zealand is not in Australia and that Canada is not in the US :o . We had to keep up with the whole USSR/Russia/East Germany/West Germany/Yugoslavia stuff... so I like to think I know a WEE bit :o

In fairness to Americans they simply didn't learn it and once told otherwise they're usually feeling pretty guilty and willing to learn. It's other so called educated countries I have issues with who, when you tell them otherwise, actually continue to insist they're right and that I am in fact British and live in the UK  . It's THEM I don't like.

Too freakin funny! Well I think this needs to be made a sticky so Helen doesn't have to keep explaining it over and over lol. Or maybe they should put it in the rules. Ya know be nice to others, no chatting, and remember most of all Ireland is NOT in the UK :D

I'd a problem getting something once from 10C. I don't remember what the problem was but it was worth the wait. I do hope you will be able play the dvd  . May be they are converting it for ya :D
