Thursday in the cold streets

We can drink coffee in the morning
and smoke cigarettes
until the sun creeps up over the tree tops,
and the good-warm feeling inside
wells up and fills us with better thoughts,
and better dreams,
and more dreams,
then when we slept,
and in the crisp air,
still stale from the night
and the moonlight,
nothing seems to move,
and you're still,
and your lips are still
and moist and beautiful,
and you can only stare out into the backyard,
and slowly blow your coffee,
and drag your cigarette
across your mouth,
and what could you be thinking of,
what could you be wanting
out of the morning;
to take all its beauty,
to take all its lust
or take in all the cool-stale air,
or find how sexy the morning is
and take that too,
and you want the morning to be naked,
like you,
and you want the morning to be satisfied
and hungry and loved
and hated,
and you hope the morning doesn't get too old,
too fast,
and you want it in your thin-lovers hands,
and you’ll take the morning as it is,
and take it all inside of you,
and groan in pain and agony
and beautiful-tender pleasure
until the morning is through with you,
and turns over and forgets you
and your beautiful body;
your soft-touch hips and neck,
and the morning forgets,
and you forget too.

you know it would be insincere if i were to say that i haven't enjoyed all of the things you've shared with us - happy, wistful, longing, sad or otherwise.

i'd never be able to pick a favorite but i can't tell you how many times i've read and re-read this one today. :)

you really make it feel like i've done something that matters or something worthwhile...thanks

you are too kind to a silly girl who gets all moon-eyed over the lovely words she finds here everyday.

writing matters, communicating matters and all of you that put yourselves out there and remind us to look at the wonder in the most quiet of moments are waging a worthwhile battle.

    don't ever let us forget.

    how can i forget
    when
    you
    are
    there behind my eyes,
the smile on your face rising inside my mouth
and onto my lips as if
    you have tranferred your habits,
    your dna onto mine.

i woke to a picture of you
    me, warm on my belly
    pushing my button
afraid to think of you, your lips
    you fingers, your hands
    in me
    knowing i could never finish
the walk to God on my own
trying to put it away, but no
oceans of love below swirl above
    me with silver wings

    there is always you.
    there is nothing but you.
all is love now you are inside me
    please dont forget
how much the smell of you will
    make it
    REAL.

    maybe both
but it's always hard to tell with me
i keep everyone at an arms-length radius away from me
  • FelicityFelicity Posts: 339
the arm's length rule is very common. only in my case i try to keep within that length, so they are ready to have and to hold.

    i need physical.

happy is the day, blissful is the night.

    but i'm dead inside
so even if people try to snuggle up
i tense up and get sweaty and nervous

it's okay, i understand this more than you could ever know.

    or maybe you do.

it's a hard thing to love someone who is detached, but it's possible. it takes a very special person to accept it.

take your space when you need it, those who love you, and will love you, must do so unconditionally.

i dreamt your arms weren't so long
and i crawled inside to fix the things
    in your head
that made you sweaty and nervous
    and it worked
cause you didn't even notice i was holding you close right now.

    somthin CAPT. Beefheart-

when she wears her bolero then she begins to dance
all the pachucos start witholding hands
when she drives her chevy sissies don't dare to glance
yellow jackets and red debbils buzzing around her hair hive ho
she wears her past like a present
takes her fancy in the past
her sedan skims along the floorboard
her two pipes pied humming carbon cum
got her wheel out of a b-29 bomber brodey knob amber
spanish fringe and talcum tassels forever amber
she looks like an old squaw indian
    she's ninety-nine she won't go down
avocado green and alfalfa yellow adorn her to the ground
tattoos and tarnished utensils a snow white bag full of tunes
drives a cartune around bromo-seltzer blue umbrella
keeps her up off the ground
round red sombreros rap her high tap horsy shoes
when she unfolds her umbrella pachuco got the blues
her loving makes me so happy
if i smile i would crack my chin
her eyes are so peaceful thinks it's heaven she been
her skin is as smooth as the daisies
in the center where the sun shines in
    smiles as sweet as honey
her teeth as clean as the combs where the bees go in
when she walks flowers surround her
let their nectar come into the air around her
she loves her love sticks out like stars

her loving sticks out like stars

i was thinking of this song
because, well, i always think of this song....

'Twas in another lifetime, one of toil and blood
When blackness was a virtue and the road was full of mud
I came in from the wilderness, a creature void of form.
"Come in," she said, "I'll give you shelter from the storm."

And if I pass this way again, you can rest assured
I'll always do my best for her, on that I give my word
In a world of steel-eyed death, and men who are fighting to be warm.
"Come in," she said, "I'll give you shelter from the storm."

Not a word was spoke between us, there was little risk involved
Everything up to that point had been left unresolved.
Try imagining a place where it's always safe and warm.
"Come in," she said, "I'll give you shelter from the storm."

I was burned out from exhaustion, buried in the hail,
Poisoned in the bushes an' blown out on the trail,
Hunted like a crocodile, ravaged in the corn.
"Come in," she said, "I'll give you shelter from the storm."

Suddenly I turned around and she was standin' there
With silver bracelets on her wrists and flowers in her hair.
She walked up to me so gracefully and took my crown of thorns.
"Come in," she said, "I'll give you shelter from the storm."

Now there's a wall between us, somethin' there's been lost
I took too much for granted, got my signals crossed.
Just to think that it all began on a long-forgotten morn.
"Come in," she said, "I'll give you shelter from the storm."

Well, the deputy walks on hard nails and the preacher rides a mount
But nothing really matters much, it's doom alone that counts
And the one-eyed undertaker, he blows a futile horn.
"Come in," she said, "I'll give you shelter from the storm."

I've heard newborn babies wailin' like a mournin' dove
And old men with broken teeth stranded without love.
Do I understand your question, man, is it hopeless and forlorn?
"Come in," she said, "I'll give you shelter from the storm."

In a little hilltop village, they gambled for my clothes
I bargained for salvation an' they gave me a lethal dose.
I offered up my innocence and got repaid with scorn.
"Come in," she said, "I'll give you shelter from the storm."

Well, I'm livin' in a foreign country but I'm bound to cross the line
Beauty walks a razor's edge, someday I'll make it mine.
If I could only turn back the clock to when God and her were born.
"Come in," she said, "I'll give you shelter from the storm."
