I actually did this on another board. But please, it'd mean a lot of you'd look through it. It took a lot of work (and free time) to complete this and I'd like to share my work.:)

Wow, what you really need is a chick and/or better porn ;)..

  • Okay, this is as far as I got in your list, but I've got to comment on this one:
134 - Let Me Sleep (Lost Dogs)

It's a cute little Christmas single about Christmas. Its about a guy trying to relive Christmas how he remembered as a kid. Pretty repetitive. Actually... very repetitive. It's cute. Nothing more.
It is more. Cold wind blows on the soles of my feet / Heaven knows nothing of me / Thought you burned, not froze for you sins/I'm lost, nowhere to go / Oh, I'm so tired an cold are the thoughts of a homeless person freezing to death at Christmas and holding onto pleasant childhood memories because that's literally all that he has. Those are chilling lyrics, not in the least bit "cute."

Not to lecture you, but you really blew that one. ;) I'm enjoying reading your commentary so far though. Thanks for the link.

ETA: Okay, rather than serial post, I'll just update this post with my comments.
    132 - Bugs (Vitalogy)

The last of the Vitalogy gags to appear on the list. This one is actually quite humorous. Accordians and Ed asking the listener if he could squash a bug or be it's friend? Hilarious. But what is a song like this actually doing on the album? Maybe I should lighten up, but the song's got nothing going for it musically and a 6 year old (and most likely did) could have written it's content.
Look deeper, my friend. "Bugs" is most likely a metaphor for rabid fans. Fans Eddie could not escape from during the Vitalogy period. Should he shut them out? Party with them? Get naked with them. It was unpleasant ... should he have fought it or yielded to it?

128 - Push Me Pull Me

Ehh... I kinda like this one but I realize it belongs in this tier. I had a false belief. But you know it's just a rant by Ed with backing vocals yelling Push Me Pull Me. It's a good rant though. He kinda pulls off talking melodically and car horns and that other horn I can't think of the name of are an added bonus. Tripped out sounds in this one. The puddles on the ground harmony nakes me laugh every time for some reason. Just pull me out!
I love that song. Love, love, love it. It's brilliant. I sometimes wonder if the reason it gets so little respect is that technically, it's not a rock song. It's jazz with a spoken-word lyric.

122 - Big Wave (Pearl Jam)

Gremmie Out of Control done seriously, you may call it. It's a fun song to listening to once in a while. The chemistry between Stone and Mike really shine in this one.
Big Wave, Satan's Bed and Lukin all suffer from the same malady: too many lyrics per measure. I like these songs well enough, but the chock-full-o-lyrics aspect means they will never be favorites of mine.
89 - All Those Yesterdays (Yield)

Two closers back to back!? Baw Gawd! Bleeds with Beatles influence (and no not just having the word Yesterday in your song constitutes as Beatles influence). The Mansfield Experiment version is absolutely wonderful and kinda makes me look less at the album version. Would have been higher if they used that version on the album, but then again, that probably wouldn't fit on Yield.
Yes, it's extremely Beatlesque but it's better than the Beatles.
    77 - Low Light (Yield)

This one always catches me by surprise as my ear wants to hear one less chord than is actually played which is one of this tracks great features. It forces you to pay attention even though by nature, it isn't supposed. I am not too fond of it lyrically but the melody clouds over this.
Fanch will tell you it's all about the Natty.
    1) Benaroya Hall 10/03
    2) MSG 9/98
    3) Mansfield III 7/03
    4) Fox Theater 4/94
    5) San Diego 7/06
It's a good list but, but, but... No Vic?
The kids of today should defend themselves against the Seventies Nineties.

Hahaha... well all my friends went home for the holiday, while I stayed here in college. Though I'm sure had they stayed, I would have gotten it done.

Does it really matter? I don't know of any sane person, aside from Stone, who actually likes that horrid song..

Yea, we went over that in the topic if you go over the other posts. I actually had something else originally and switched it for Mankind but never switched the album I believe.

I also put Dirty Frank on No Code later on... haha.

The first time I heard 'Mankind' live was at the State College, PA show in 2003. I almost choked the person next to me, but then realized that the person next to me was my girlfriend. And knowing her, she'd probably press charges. Nevertheless, it was painful..

got to hand it to you man, this is always something i wanted to do. i wouldn't even try to rank them though... i'd just go album-by-album and write a blurb for each track. i can see this took a LOT OF TIME and i commend you for your efforts.

i like how you broke the songs into tiers, not something i would've thought of. i don't agree w/ all your rankings, hell.. i didn't even make it to the end tonight (going to the wife's company Christmas dinner).

FYI: "Red Dot/Untitled" off of Yield is actually called "The Colour Red"... look it up.

If you take the time to read the write-ups you will find many wrong/misinformed facts that I just assumed. Haha... but thanks for pointing that out, and feel free to do it about countless others I'm sure I have.

    Your review of Whipping:
Unlike other songs on this tier, the sad thing about this song is that they actually tried to make a seriously good song. I can't even appreciate the music behind it since it's a very standard chord progression done extremely fastly over and over again. Now, I'm all for simplicity (done right) but this song irks me the wrong way. Ahhhhhh Whipping! It's one of the rare hard-rocking tracks where it appears the band sacrifices melodic content for noise and that's just plain wrong. Should have never made the record.
