Interesting possible album title.

I dont know if we can tell anything about the album from the title alone, but its an odd one for sure. They really liked that sea turtle race i guess!

Beyond the name of the turtle, what do you think the term backspacer means. Backspace in computer terms of course is going a space backwards.

odd title for a band so openly obama. Would have thought the title would have been something like Forward spacer or something!

they should just take the name of the band who had that album instead.. call the record "supergroove"! the cover art could be a picture of stone mid-duck walk.

I think the name of the album was chosen before they named the Turtle as such. There was a video interview with some pro swimmer who said we- the general public- would soon see why the name Backspacer was used for the Turtle. I bet they were tossing around names for the new album, then just used that one for the Turtle.

I have no idea what it represents, but maybe it involves Obama and his quest to undue (so as to use the back space button) the terrible things the Bush administration and others have left him- i.e., economy, government, terrorism etc.

    Just food for thought!

Backspacer..probably related to erasing the damage done by Bush, or something like that...I like it though, creative....just release it already and come to Prague!!

good call. or could mean or hint at a "return to roots" type of thing. if the songs are a bit more like their earlier days, i.e. using their old producer Brendan O'Brien...could be a reference to that.

    I dig it too.

Thank God they're not calling the new album "Greatest Hits" then.

I dont think album titles are copyrightable, so that wouldnt matter. I know for a fact song titles arent copyrightable.

That's what I was gonna say -- you use the backspace (or delete key) to erase your mistakes...or to correct mistakes, which is probably a more appropriate way to say it...

I type for a living, so I'm a chronic backspacer...let's just pretend that didn't happen....

Not so much defunct, they reformed a couple of years ago. They were pretty popular in the 90s.
