are there any albums which upon hearing the lead-off track, you must listen to in its entirety?

for me, bowie's five years came up on shuffle today, and i've been looking forward to listening to ziggy stardust ever since. craving it actually, but i haven't had the time until now to sit down and enjoy it.

PJ - Ten: After the first few beats of "Master\Slave", I'm hooked. And once (ironically on the song "Once") the guitars come in there's no turning back.

Sigur Ros - ( ): That distorted clunk followed by the beautiful piano intro for "Vaka" is just a magical prelude for things to come.

Steve Jabolonsky - Transformers Original Motion Picture Score: The heroic sounding horns that lead off "Autobots" raises the hair on the back of my neck. Bonus reason to keep listening: Knowing that the hope-filled grand melodic opening track is directly followed by the hauntingly dark rhythm driven "Decepticons".

Due to time constraints and the fact that I'm dead tired, that's all that I could come up with off the topof my head  .

i don't know why this wasn't more obvious. i don't think i've ever made it 30 seconds in without listening to the entire album.

blind melon's hello goodbye/galaxie just now hooked me into listening to all of soup. not that i'm complaining.

That's wild! I woke up this morning with Five Years in my head so first thing I did was put the album on and listen to the whole thing.

For me every time I hear the opening of Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska I know I just have to listen to the complete album. It's like a book I can't put down.

I'm dumbstruck by this entry. I can't tell if you're a genius or you're completely insane.

edit: I now realize you're commenting on the live-action movie sountrack, not the animated movie soundtrack from the 80s. I listened to snippets of each piece and I think you may be on to something. Those are much better than "The Touch" from the animated movie, cheesiness aside.

It is time to admit that we used to rock like hurricanes. It is time to run for the hills and go round and round. It is time for us to shout at the devil. We've got the right to choose it, there ain't no way we'll lose it, and we're not gonna take it anymore.

Is the first song called Vaka? I bought this album off itunes and all the tracks are called track -1, track -2, etc.

I think a touch of both, depends upon the day. :D

Yeah, I meant the live action one, although no offense to the original one. Honestly though there are a couple of more movie scores I could fit in there, like Hans Zimmer's "The Thin Red Line", and Johnny Greenwood's "There Will Be Blood". My job requires me to be in my car a lot, on average 3 to 4 hours a day, and movie scores are what I like to listen to most. I'm always looking for new ones, so any ideas would be appreciated.

Yep, that's the one. Technically the songs don't have titles, so they are called "Track 1", "Track 2", and so on, but the band came up with working titles for them when they were recording the album, and they use them when writing their set lists. The alternate titles are (with translations):

    Track #1 - Vaka (Orri's [bass player] daughter's name)
Track #2 - Fyrsta (The first song)
    Track #3 - Samakeyti (Attachment)
Track #4 - Njosnavelin (The spy machine)
Track #5 - Alafoss (Name of their studio - Swimming Pool Studios)
Track #6 - E-Bow (Effect used on the bass guitar on this song. PJ uses an E-Bow a lot, Wishlist is a good example)
    Track #7 - Dav'dalagid (The death song)
Track #8 - Popplag'id (The pop song, my favorite SR song, and in my top 5 songs of all time, a masterpiece)

As I stated in my post above, my job has me on the road a lot, and I go through Gretna probably once a week. Where are you at now (my question mark button is broken, so I have to end my questions with a period).

Thanks for that info. () is the only Sigur Ros album I have and I don't know a lot about them. I over bought on my ipod. I have a 160GB and still have 128GB free (even after raiding friend's cd collections) so I've been trying to find new music to fit on it! Sigur Ros was a band I have always wanted to check out. I really enjoy ().

That's cool that you go through Gretna so much. I live in Northern California now, just outside of Sacramento. My parents still live in Gretna. I miss living there, especially the food!

Have you seen a lot of Pearl Jam shows in New Orleans?
