Any 311 fans out there?

One of my high school buddies always talked about 311 so I recently decided to give them a listen and downloaded their greatest hits album. To my surprise, I really can't put it down! I love the riffs of every song and the lyrics are catchy too. I feel like its a very unique sound. Are there any fans out there that can recommend some of their other albums? rarities?

I like their live album even though I'm not that big of a fan of them.

It's funny because I text my cousin today- who is a fan- and told him that I was diggin their new song

Huge fan. I'll be seeing them in Philly in June. It's really hard for me to recommend stuff because I like them all for different reasons. So I'll just run thru them all real quick with my take

Music - Great first album. Lots of classics, many played still during live shows
Grassroots - The album rocks pretty good. Silver is perhaps my favorite song
311 - Self titled album, this is where they got real big. popular songs on here but still a great album. love the drums on this album, very deep cymbal action
Transistor - A bit of a slower album, kind of "trippy" in a sense. A great listen
Soundsystem - Probably my favorite album top to bottom, really rocks hard
From Chaos - Again some popular songs on here, nice bass throughout
Evolver - Little change starts in this album, more singing less "rapping" nice melodies. some heavy songs and some lighter songs
Dont Tread on Me - little more of a chance. hardly any rapping except one song (solar flare, which is really really good). Nice melodies on this too.

Sorry if that all kind of runs together, but i didnt want to make it too long. Greatest hits and live are great as well. Uplifter comes on june 2 and im really looking forward to it. Any more questions feel free to ask!

Glad someone started this thread. Ya know I just saw 311 about a week ago at a festival with Korn, Toadies, papa roach and a bunch of other bands. 311 was awesome. I really enjoyed the set they chose even though they only got an 1hr and 10 minutes. I've since downloaded some songs off Itunes from their greatest hits. I had "transister" years ago, but the cd is tore up from the floor up. I could have met 311, but the security wouldn't let anymore people into the autograph tent- bummer. Even Korn signed this year which suprised me cause the headliners usually never sign at Buzzfest.

Back in the day (late 90's) they were one of my favorite bands. Live is where they really rocked. They had so much energy, and like PJ they always had an air of positive vibes circulating through the crowd. I saw them 8 or 9 times and each time was really great. In 2000 I saw them at the Varsity at the peak of their popularity. The Varsity is probably around a 1000 person venue, so it was a small show. They didn't have an openeing band, they just came out and played for 3 and a half hours. One of the best shows I've ever been to.

As far as albums go, Grassroots is a classic. It's in my top 10 albums of all time. It's one of those that I can listen to the whole thing all the way through.

Music is also a really great album. Everytime I hear it I can't help but being transported to the beach. It was the album that my friends and I jammed every spring break. Good times.
    It's all about the music...

I LOVE 311. The best part about them is they are truly unique. Their music is such a mix of genre's and with a nice regae musical influence. I'm seeing them in NY, central park summer stage, which is the best venue for them. Outside in the park! The live version of applied science is incredible. Those who have seen know what I am talking about. Music & Evolver are my fav records. Uplifter is the new one coming out in June. Pumped!

Here is the Houston setlist that I saw last week. I only wish they had played longer. Pretty awesome setlist festival wise. I wish it had been a full blown 311 show though, cause they were kicking ass up there.

    <Festival Show>

    1. Homebrew
    2. Come Original
    3. Hive
    4. All Mixed Up
    5. Beautiful Disaster
    6. Beyond the Gray Sky
    7. Hey You
    8. Applied Science
    9. Amber
    10. Sick Tight
    11. Creatures (For a While)
    12. Down
    13. Feels So Good

i am a casual 311 fan, and every time that they come to town i end up missing them for miscellaneous reasons. and now my 311 fan friend has moved to the other side of the country, so i won't have her constantly reminding me that i have to see them live.

    My favorites

    1. Grassroots
    2. Music
    3. S/T

I think from the years 1993 -1996 all I listened too was 311, Sublime, Pearl Jam, RHCP, & RATM.

It always takes me back to that place when I hear any of their first 3 albums. My first show I saw of theirs was in 1993, such a sick show. It's in my top 10 of the 100's of shows I've seen.

always thought the lead singer sounded a bit like he was castrated at some point in his life, makes me think of a group of loser high school kids sittin around gettin drunk on imported beer.
  • new 311 record UPLIFTER comes out today. I dig. It offeres a nice variety. Actually the 2 bonus songs that are on the delux version are my 2 fav. Not sure why they didnt make the record.

No no its not DTOM part 2, trust me. There is a lot of singing but there are really some good hard rocking tracks. Bob Rock did a real nice job producing this album. If you are a fan, pick it up, it will deliver

I think that is an ultimate summer album. I only also have Evolver (I like it) and Don't Tread on Me (it's ok). Seems like a weird 311, collection, right? I had Uplifter in my hand yesterday, I love the album cover (as I do with most of theirs) but I used my blackberry to look up Uplifters wikipedia page and there were two 2.5/5 star reviews (just wanted to put something in parentheses for the 4th time in one post) so I put it back down.

Agreed. I won't lie, I was a little worried after Don't Tread on Me, but Uplifter is great. Can't wait to see them this summer, they always put on an amazing show, and some of these new songs will be great to see live (India Ink, Something out of Nothing, Jackpot, etc.)

The Something out of Nothing chorus kills me. It would be a great song without that part. Ugh.

It's going to take a while to top "Sometimes jacks Rule The Realm" for me when it comes to 311. I love all their stuff though. Uplifter is growing on me.

yeah it is kind of annoying, but it gets stuck in my head like that's its job. definitely doesn't bother me enough to ruin the song though

Yep, though I am not as into them as I was in high school and college. I was obsessed. When the local radio station would have 311-related contests, I would stay up all night to win. I got to go to their first acoustic performance and stand on the side of the stage for another show..haha.
