What would be something enticing to call a bird(s) east in autumn...something to overturn his natural desire to go south (and west from what I hear)...apples and peanut butter, topped with some seeds?...brilliantly colored autumnal leaves?...the smell of damp leaves and pine needles in the pine barrens (ok I like this)?...the wild ocean of the Atlantic that leaves your face cold and damp with sea spray (I LOVE this)?...this keeps me up at night...literally...I have heard stories of this place...a place that beckons the bird(s) for a few nights...maybe?...this autumn...patience is a virtue, that to some degree, I lack...Oh if I could sprout wings...none of this would matter...

It feels as though an hour is a day ...a day is a week...a week, a month...and so on...it is TORTURE....

Beautiful poem, I must say... I'd call it... "Addiction".

there's no doubt about it. i can't remember a year filled with so much promise of pearl jam. more re-releases, a tour, a new album. it sends one into a tailspin.

Autumn is a time for preserving all that we have harvested from our summer of nurturing and love to make sure our winter isn't cold, dark, lonely and hungry... Summer seems to be bringing obstacle after obstacle to keep my harvest very small this autumn. Winter survival will be difficult here. Birds will fly east in autumn in an uncustomary manner that goes against all that is ingrained in them from centuries past. Will two days in the east be enough for the birds to gather what is needed for the long, dark, cold, lonely winter...or will they need to extend their stay to to ensure winter survival?

ok enough of my poetic dribble...is there a night three...I must make plans to spend more money that I don't have so I can be satiated enough to get through a long grey eastern winter...

sorry...it's raining again...when it rains... it pours from my soul...

beautiful and profound sky river winter.

    You're right.

autumn is indeed the time to prepare at home, and yet unlike the trees we animals have portable roots (surely our blessing and our curse)

Sometimes when we see those we love enjoying themselves with festivities and colours, wrapped up safely indoors whilst we enviously pace around the cold outside peering through the windows we have to realise that it isn't them ignoring US, it is us shutting ourselves out in the cold.

Maybe this autumn the scattered birds will fly to the eddying new flock converging, then return home invigorated and refreshed to sing out the stories and the good news!
