I saw them a few years back and they blew me away- great live band. But their most recent album is more of a hip hop/funk album. Anyone seen them recently? I was hoping for more of an old school Galactic show.

I'm just getting into them and I'm not really sure where to start. I missed them at Bonnaroo last year when they did a set with Chali 2 Na of J5 (which I heard was awesome), but I won't miss them this year! The only album I have is the recent one that is more hip-hop oriented.

Any suggestions for other albums to check out? Are they better live than their studio stuff? I kinda get that vibe from them...

They put out great albums and are incredible live. My favorite album by them is Rukus. Coolin' Off is also really good- plus I believe they have a few live albums out there. You can't really go wrong with this band. I missed them last year at Roo as well- I can't remember who I was seeing at the time, but after I realized that I missed them, I was pissed. Their performance on the Roo DVD was pretty sweet though= even though it was different from what I was expecting.

Edit: Check out their live album: We Love 'em Tonight: Live at Tipitina's - Damn good album

I have Rukus, great album. I dig me a little Galactic every now and then. I've seen them numerous times, their shows are a lot of fun. First time I saw them was the first Bonnaroo in 2002. They have definitely been exploring the hip-hop lately.

I saw them a few times. Always a great show, especially when they're playing with the Dirty Dozen.
