Who else is looking forward to this? My order shipped from Amazon yesterday. This has been a great year for music this year--Bruce and U2 put out stellar new cd's and we've got new Dylan,Wilco and PJ to look forward to. Not to mention the shows I'm going to that I can't afford--Wilco, Springsteen and U2 are my purchased shows this year. This has been a crappy year for me, but at least there's good music!

I knew Wilco was recording, but there are no details on the album are there?

As to the Hip, I wish I'd preordered. I've been planning to go pick it up tomorrow, but I'm not sure I'll be able to find it anywhere in Chicago... they're not very well known stateside. I'd hate to have to wait!

I loved Morning Moon, or whatever the song was they put up on facebook a while back. Hope the rest of the album is as strong.

the albums is great. after a couple of listens that is.

its very strange that the first 7 songs are so chill. there's no ealry rockers, like poets or little bones or anything near that. like i say, its just not expected to ease into an album like that. im really loving the first half of depression suite, (are you/going through/something?) its great, but goes on too long. (9 mins)

my favs are morning moon, queen of the furrows and love is a curse will be killer live. honey, please is wicked to.

i pre-orderd my ltd edition double vinyl last night, just couldt let the deadline go by.

4 shows in june coming up!
    Van '98, Sea I+II '00, Sea '01, Sea II '02, Van '03, Gorge, Van, Cal, Edm '05, Bos I+II, Phi I+II, DC, SF II+III, Port, Gorge I+II '06, DC, NY I+II '08, Sea I+II, Van, Ridge , LA III+IV' 09, Indy '10, Cal, Van '11, Lond, Van, Sea '13, Memphis '14, RRHOF '17, Sea I+II '18, Van I+II, Vegas I+II '24

I kinda like the sound of that. I did really like the last album, but sometimes the harder songs sounded a little forced. I'm all for an album with relaxed grooves a la Escape Is at Hand...

There's a post onWilcoworld.net that they plan to have the album out in June. There's also a list of songs recoded for the album on the post. I'm looking forward to seeing them in Athens in a few weeks. Try checking out Best Buy for We Are The Same. I found a few copies of World Container there when it came out a few years back, and they also have WATS listed on the website, so they might have it in store. That's the worst thing about not living on the Canadian border anymore, I have to work to find Hip CDs.

I did get a copy at Best Buy, so far I absolutely love this album. It's easily their best since Phantom Power. It's kind of the album I wish PJ would make... one that doesn't try to pretend they're all 20 still or punk rockers and just crafts excellent songs that play to the band's strengths. This album is incredible!

    That's good news about wilco.

I wish I would have thought about best buy before I placed my Amazon order. My copy shipped but it probably won't be here for a few days. I'm glad to hear it's good. They're one of those bands that rarely puts out a bad album. I really thought World Container was great, and it's looking like WATS will be good as well. All I need now is an Atlanta tour date!

Yeah, I liked World Container, but it was a bit too glossy for me. I also didn't like the compression, made it painful to listen to at times. This new albums is very different from the last, not nearly as aggressive and hard rocking. But I like it far better. I'll be curious to hear your thoughts.

I'm seeing them in Detroit next month. I would have liked to go both nights (they're doing 2) but the tickets were way too expensive for that :(

I know what you mean about it bein too glossy. I think I liked it more as a reaction to how much I disliked In Between Evolution and wouldn't have liked it as much if it followed In Violet Light. Detriot is a great place to see them, I saw them at DTE Energy Center in '02. I wanted to fly up for one or two of the Lewiston, NY showsbut funds are too tigt. The best part about living in Atlana is I can see them at a club for 25.00 bucks instead of an ampitheater or arena for 60.

Yeah, IBE was a bit of a miss, and even IVL took a while to grow on me. WC was a definite improvement and has some fantastic songs, but for some reason it reminded me of Avacado... I liked it as a return to form, but the production made it a tough listen and in the end it didn't really lodge at the top of my list.

Got it today but was sidetracked by the Canucks/Flamewads game. I'll probably wait 'til the weekend when I can give it the loving attention it deserves.

I preordered this on thehip.com (through Maple Music). Apparently they don't even dispatch until the release day, plus I'm in the UK, so it will be a while till I get to listen to it :(. At least they're shipping it with a free live CD.

That's really good to hear. I didn't like World Container that much and a large part of that was the more screaming voice of Downie. I was happy when I heard Morning Moon because I think they're more suited to this kind of sound.

And I could definitely say something similar with PJ. While I love Avacado, there were too many fast really punkish songs I didn't like that much and Ed's voice didn't suit so well in my opinion.

Yeah, even some of the live stuff I heard from the last 2 Hip tours was off-putting... Gord spending too much time screaming words instead of singing them. But his voice sounds like gold again on this album. It's excellent.

I almost caved and bought from them for the live copy, but I wanted the album asap and figured I could just order the download from their vault if I wanted. Still, it's going to be cool for you to get the one with the official artwork and all.

Ed's voice had some serious problems on Avocado.

Yeah (although I still rate it well, and great live too). I wonder if there'll be a similar shift from between Avacado and the next album as with World Container to We Are The Same, especially coming out of Into the Wild and the solo touring.

I doubt it, Ed will still write the fast punk rockers (corduroy, mfc, severed hand etc etc), Stone will still write the regular rockers(alive, no way etc etc), jeff will still write the darker tunes(nothingman, nothing as it seems, low light etc etc), there will be that variety there for sure, we will def see a more relaxed vibe but nothing like that shift for the hip between WC and WATS.

I did that with the Hold Steady's last album and it didn't get to me until a week after the release date. I could've killed somebody. It almost didn't make it in time for the show I had bought tickets for! I will never do that again.
