The Catherine Wheel - Ferment
The Catherine Wheel - Chrome
Tuatara - Breaking the Ethers
Dead Man Walking - Original Score
radiohead - Kid A
Morrissey - You Are the Quarry
The Smiths - Singles
Last few days I've put The Catherine Wheel's 8+ minute-long opus "Eat My Dust You Insensitive Fuck" on repeat. It's from their Happy Days album.
Once upon a time I could fall asleep to just about anything, but my brain's become more particular in recent years.
Cat Power - Moon Pix
Alice In Chains - MTV Unplugged
Mark Lanegan - The Winding Sheet
Type O Negative - October Rust (puts me to sleep everytime I listen to it when tired and/or in bed with my skullcandys)
Jeff Buckley - Grace (this album is like one giant lullaby)
Mogwai - Any Mogwai, really.
Neil Young - Massey Hall 1971
Three Fish - Three Fish
Three Fish - The Quiet Table
Tom Waits - Mule Variations
7/2/06 - Denver, CO
6/12/08 - Tampa, FL
8/23/09 - Chicago, IL
9/28/09 - Salt Lake City, UT (11 years too long!!!)
9/03/11 - East Troy, WI - PJ20 - Night 1
9/04/11 - East Troy, WI - PJ20 - Night 2
i think wilco's yankee hotel foxtrot is personally pretty awesome. some iron and wine too.
Yeah, Wilco all the way, they're one of the best bands out there, and are pretty relaxing to listen to.
If you have the Garden State soundtrack, give that a whirl. It's one of the best soundtracks I've found for a Hollywood film using contemporary music, and all the songs on there are great. For not being a big fan of Coldplay, their song which starts off the disk is pretty great, and very un-Coldplay-esque.
i want to thank all of you for all the suggestions. i'm glad some of you listed some heavy albums too. best sleep ive had lately came while blaring some dimmu borgir. when i get my new computer and can update my ipod i'll try some of your suggestions. till then three fish's 2 albums and grouper's ''dragging a dead deer up a hill'' will have to suffice.
I’ve seen Pearl Jam 25 times, Eddie Vedder 9 times, and Brad once.
I was wondering the same question, about albums that are good to listen to when you are falling asleep... the one that I recently found works awesomely for me is '( ) - Sigur Ros'!
*We CAN bomb the World to pieces, but we CAN'T bomb it into PEACE*...Michael Franti
*MUSIC IS the expression of EMOTION.....and that POLITICS IS merely the DECOY of PERCEPTION*

Thank you for jogging my memory. However, I would not choose Colma, as some of the drums are a little sharp to the ear. Try "Electric Tears". Beautiful, melodic, haunting guitar playing, with no jarring background beats.
Bright eyed kid: "Wow Typo Man, you're the best!"
Typo Man: "Thanks kidz, but remembir, stay in skool!"
PJ is actually the band that helps puts me to sleep better than anything else, you just have to keep it on a very low volume. Ed's voice is soothing to me, and since I know every song so well my mind isn't overly attentive to the music, which helps.
The Dead Can Dance might do the trick for you. There was one fan website where they would put together tracklists just for the sole purpose of helping people sleep.
Pink Moon by Nick Drake is a good one too.
Again, a mix CD of PJ's slower stuff should work wonders for you... namely Of the Girl, Dead Man, I'm Open, Off He Goes, Strangest Tribe, Indifference, Thumbing My Way, Thin Air, Habit, Other Side, etc...
If none of the above work, take up weed + beer and you'll be alright. And Yes, I am a doctor.
sigur ros
explosions in the sky
neil young- live at massey
all pretty peaceful and relaxing albums for me.
Hell yeah, great choices!
Jeff Buckley's - Grace always makes me sleep well...

Dark Side by Pink floyd
Jar of Flies is a good choice. And ITW I can see being decent.
But Dark Side, no offense, is a terrible choice for one reason only. I dare you to even remotely stay relaxed when the clocks kick in at the beginning of Time. If it were not for that section (and perhaps the GGITS wailing), I would agree.
I think "Wish You Were Here", "Animals" and "Obscured By Clouds" are better choices.

I fall asleep fast. Ususally under 3 songs. I will put a CD on shuffle just for some variety or I'd only ever hear the first couple of songs

Mazzy Star - So Tonight That I Might See
Either of these (or both) works great EVERY single time.
