I've been having trouble going to sleep lately. Anybody have any recommendations for albums to fall asleep to?
I’ve seen Pearl Jam 25 times, Eddie Vedder 9 times, and Brad once.

exhausted sigur ros to the point of it actually being annoying now. explosions have always kept me awake for some reason, i use it to listen to while i read. might have to give neil young a shot.

Did you happen to get a chance to see them on tour last year? I caught them at the Greek Theatre in LA and it was an amazing show. one of the best that I saw last year, night 2 of Bridge School was the best but they were probably number 2 with MMJ being number 3.

    Ah, well, I tried!

On that note, I'm going to sleep to the sounds of the newly remastered deluxe edition of REM's Murmur :)

+1 on the Iron & Wine suggestion, though I wouldn't use Shepherd's Dog.

For years I've used The Division Bell by Pink Floyd for this purpose. Sure, you can criticize the album for not being challenging like their older albums with Roger Waters or Syd Barrett, and this why I think the band at that stage would be more accurately called the David Gilmour Band, but DGB is a great band to chill out to, when you don't want to think too much and just enjoy some spacey melodies. I personally cannot get enough of Gilmour's solos.

Gilmour's 2006 album On an Island is just as good for a mellow late evening, especially The Blue! But skip track 4 - god, it's awful.

Anything quieter, alt country, slow MMJ would be perfect.. actually their new live EP is absolutely perfect.

  • Corrine Bailey Rae.........You'll be maxin and relaxin....cat power seems to sometimes work?..........neil young massey hall works.........the trick is to stay asleep and not wake up before you get your rest!!! I average 6 hrs since i've been single for 4 yrs now and i've tried everything!! Music is not always the answer for sleep..sometimes it stirs the emotions or creative juices up?

I always liked putting on a live recording of Gillian Welch and David Rawlings.

Andrew Bird has also been a good one for me.

I think MLoR and Division Bell kick the crap out of the Syd stuff.

Take a Breath is the best song from On An Island. If you seen it live you will understand. I thought it was a shame that it didn't more recognition, especially with all the love McCartney and Robert Plant have gotten recently. If Raising Sand deserved to dominate the Grammy's, against much stiffer competition, then On An Island should have won every award that was given out.
